  1. omg I was there two weeks ago, read about it on reddit while I was in Riga and wanted to take a look.. such a scary and strange place, good for you all that it’s demolished.

  2. Latvia lost in World War 2. The country was occupied by Soviet Union in 1940 and ceased to exist. Latvias officers were shot in Litene in 1941 and more than 15000 people were deported to GULAG in cattle railway carts in the same year. Latvia was never liberated from nazism by Soviet Union because you cannot liberate a country that does not exist. Soviet Union was liberating territory of its own empire. 4 years after WW2 second wave of mass deportations happened – more than 42000 people. Not to mention executions of civilians, torture, looting, raping, imprisonment, censorship, etc. This monument of victory is Soviet Unions victory – Latvias enemy. I still do not understand how it could stay here after more than 30 years of Latvias independance.

  3. As a Russian-speaking person (who also is ~half Russian), I’m freaking glad to finally see this. Finally, some good shit.

  4. Please excuse my ignorance. I am moving to Riga next month and I am pretty curious to know what is it that is being demolished? I understand that there is quite a lot of anti-Russian sentiment in the country and Latvia is decolonising rapidly especially since the war.

  5. Lai Latvijā saņemtu “drosmi” kaut ko izdarīt, laikam ir jānotiek milzīgai cilvēku traģēdijai kaut kur tuvumā, kā Krievijas iebrukumam/karam Ukrainā.

  6. If the vatniks start whining, direct them to the news where orcs demolish monument after monument in Mariupol and locals can’t do anything or they would be shot by the z nazis.

  7. Ну вот и славно 🙂

Starp citu. Man kaut kur bija sovoka karogs (biju jauns un ne visai gudrs, kā arī dzīvošana Daugavpils informācijas burbulī ne gluži palīdzēja). Ja atradīšu, varētu noziedot kādam kas gribētu to sadedzināt, apčūrāt vai vēl kādu publisku performanci ar to nofilmēt.
