Greek Archaeologists to UNESCO: Ominous future for Hagia Sophia after its conversion into a mosque

  1. At minimum it should be a museum. Ideally it should be a Greek Orthodox Church. That would go a long way in healing the rift between Turkey and Greece.

  2. Correct me if I’m mistaken, but it was converted to a mosque in 2020.

Since then, it has followed the parisian model, where it is a muslim place of worship, but open to all religions and tourists outside of prayer times. Even during prayer times, toursits can be inside, as long as proper decorum is maintained.

Can someone explain why they seem to have sent a letter 2 years after the fact? because they have photographs of tourists/pilgrims not respecting the place? wouldnt that be the case even if it was still a museum?
