@[Rafusk](https://www.reddit.com/user/Rafusk/) asked few days ago for advise on visiting Bulgaria, I thought I will share few tips I gave them in private chat. I am also foreigner in Bulgaria and some things are still visible to me:

1. **Is Bulgaria worth visiting – bloody hell YES** – very much under-rated and not well advertised country with literally plenty to visit. The diversity of the country makes it a gem. To be honest I would fire all people responsible for promoting Bulgaria abroad, because if you go to Trip Advisor it looks like there is almost nothing to see in Sofia. And there is a lot!
2. **Bulgarians are one of the kindness of all Slavs** \- but like all of us, we start with angry face but once you “flirt us up” you become sister or brother and we will go a long way to help you and accommodate you. We just say “hi” to each-other with a “punch in the nose and then we hug.” Thats who we are.
3. **Sofia has dozens of museums**
[The Natural History Museum](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Museum_of_Natural_History,_Bulgaria), has mind-blowing collection of exotic and domestic specimen. Also the amazing [National Historical Museum](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Historical_Museum,_Bulgaria) \- mostly for the interior design of the building. The brutalism of external structure and yet incredibly tasteful interior – important lesson. Mind you the museum was the the museum building was the primary residence of the dictator and last communist leader [Todor Zhivkov](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todor_Zhivkov)
4. **Sofia is** ***multikulti*** and you can feel the crossroads of cultures and civilizations – for that discover it yourself by just wandering around. Start at the Serdica beginning of Ulitsa Pirotska from Mosque, Synagogue and just continue with that street.
5. **Food** \- if you are planning to diet here, better identify a gym or park for your cardio. You will need to train twice as hard to burn the amazing food.

That’s it for now. And do visit #Bulgaria – it is undiscovered gem.

  1. There is pretty much nothing to see in Sofia compared to almost any other EU capital. Disgusting infrastructure, ugly buildings, literally a charmless place. Stick to the seaside, mountains and maybe Plovdiv but i might be biased there
