  1. **Robert Troy**: The root of the issue here is that I misinterpreted the requirements, I was wrongly under the impression that **I only needed to declare the interests that I held on the 31st of December** of a particular year, not on an annualised basis.

    **Bryan Dobson**: It couldn’t be clearer, under “property” for example, it says:
    > the following interests shall be registerable; any interests in land of yours which exceeded €13,000 at **any time during the appropriate period – 1st January – 31st December**.

  2. He lied in the interview , Its just been announced that Robert Troy has no planning permission nor fire safety cert for his Dublin 7 investment property where he charges tenants €1,500 a month for one-bed flats. He claimed everything was fully certified.

    Who votes for these people seriously?

  5. It’s mental they allow these guys to explain themselves, only makes it worse. I get he is trying to save his job and reputation but they should be throwing him under the bus, and then announcing there will be a full review etc. Letting him go on radio and digging a deeper hole seems like a terrible idea.

  7. One of the interesting things about the Troy controversies is that most happened while he was in opposition. He would never have come under this level of scrutiny if FF didn’t enter government. Makes you wonder about what skeletons the current opposition TDs have in their closets.

  8. Side note here, but christ these TDs/Minister/Junior Ministers must really really do fuck all, imagine being a Junior Minister and having the time to be a Director of a company. I know you’d hire people etc.. But that’s not really the point, the point is if you stand as a TD to represent the people, yet you have time to run a side bussiness that is extremly profitable and at the same time make decisions on interests that affect your bussiness, your people should come first.

    I think there should be more referendums, its not right that 3/4 people get to decide on what an entire area wants, you should be able to mass vote online via the online services and it should be made secure or a code posted out to you to log in to vote. Its a total farce the system we have now.

    FF are just the poster boys for it but they’re all at it.

    You can guarantee that if SIPO were given the powers of CAB and told to properly go after politicians to prove all was in order you’d see dozens end up like Troy: getting found out completely and talking absolute shite to defend themselves because they know they’re guilty and there’s no way to talk themselves out of it.

  16. Awful lot of quiet Fine Gael supporters today. For the supposed “party of law and order” you’d expect them to be enraged at a person who shows blatant disregard and incompetence related to rules printed in plain black and white.

    It is funny how under any bit of tough scrutiny you can see how inept many of our politicians truly are especially given how little work must be involved being a minister if you have time to own and manage 11 properties.

  18. Crooked. Why couldn’t the dail be back this week. Exchanges would be great. Opposition parties would have a field day.

  19. It’s about the kind of person we want in the dail. We will be fed politicians in this manner regularly going forward. I am particularly looking forward to the upcoming carbon pigs as they get skewered by Dobsons replacement over the amount of Christmas tree lights they keep on during the summer. When you think Caleary went for a round of golf.

    Our systems are vast and a pain in the hole for this very reason. He has been caught as red handed as a politician can be in an old bureaucracy like ours.

    The long term knock on from a controversy like this is usually a small extra slice of transparency in dail member declarations via yet more bureaucracy. I think that is called progress?

    And so just like in 500 AD instead of soldiers emerging it is the crystallisation of the very idea of truth itself blah blah blah or something. He is done.

  20. So, is the public able to call for an early general election? Might be just the perfect time for it.
