Liz Truss campaign hints at U-turn on conversion therapy ban

  1. > Liz Truss “hates” her own plan to ban anti-LGBTQ+ conversion therapy, the director of her leadership election campaign suggested last night.

    > Former Conservative leader Iain Duncan Smith strongly hinted that Truss plans to U-turn on the ban, one of her flagship policies as minister for equalities, while standing in for her at an event hosted by the Conservative Christian Fellowship (CCF) on Tuesday evening. If confirmed, it would be the third major about-face of her campaign.

It’s really exciting how into people with no values the Tory party is now.

  2. Tories gonna Tory!

What a bunch of cunts. If this turns out to be true, abortion, gay marriage and who knows what else will be next in my opinion.

  3. God yesterday it was climate denial and fracking, today it’s tracking trans people.

So the analysts are telling them the votes are to be got from deniers and bigots.

What a way to run a democracy.

  4. > Asked about the Truss campaign’s policy on the conversion therapy ban, Duncan Smith said: “I hate it. Can I be clear about that?

Do you have any idea how fucking terrifying this is?

First they exclude trans people from the “revised” version and now we’re hearing the likes of this.

I’m white and gay, probably the least targeted of the LGBTQ+ group and even I’m starting to feel ripples of anxiety about my safety with this government. I can’t even begin to try and understand how trans people must be feeling these days.

    > He added: “People are allowed their beliefs. You may not agree with them all the time. But the idea you ban them from this is this kind of ghastly woke culture…

Oh get to fuck you absolute bellend. Oh dear, this *ghastly* woke culture sure does sound like it might interfere with the interests of the **Conservative Christian Fellowship**. None of these dust-farting fucks even know what being woke *means* – it’s just a buzzword they’ve latched onto because Barry from Kent cheers when they say it and doesn’t like the fact he can’t call people “trannies” or “poofs” anymore.

People **are** allowed their beliefs. Banning conversion therapy isn’t being done as a “fuck you” to psychotic Christians or any other religious group. It’s being done to safeguard peoples mental health and at times their fucking lives. How about, instead, we ban driving people to suicide through religious zealotry?

Not banning the barbaric practise of conversion therapy is effectively government saying that anyone who isn’t cis-identifying and/or straight is wrong. That there’s something wrong with us and we don’t belong. We’re simply tolerated.

    Fuck this entire fucking party.

  5. It’s best we know what they really think. A truly nasty lot. I like it when they say the quiet bits out loud, as sometimes we forget what they are really like…

  6. Truss is a sock puppet of the ERG. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Life is going to get more difficult for anyone who isn’t a straight white middleaged male in the coming months.

  7. Whenever you mention that by the overturning of abortion rights and the slow erosion of human rights in the US, that tories are watching closely, that it wouldn’t be far fetched to imagine this could easily happen here, you get the typical response that ‘we are not America’ and that ‘this could not happen over here, no way!’- well, the early signs are appearing for what may come. Then again, we are not as stupid, are we /s

  8. As a trans woman, I’ve been getting more and more scared with each passing year with this government. No one seems to be standing up and challenging them when it comes to helping us. The rhetoric and constant media manipulation against trans women has me almost a recluse. I used to go out to see my friends and family, I dare not do these things now. I haven’t left my house since January, except to see my GP.
