No shit. And no data on Cornwall because that would be depressing, knowing how many AirBnBs used to be rentals.
I don’t know how anyone can look at this system that constantly breeds homelessness as a feature, and say it’s fair and good.
My rent went up by £100/month for the next year, which is already more than my pay rise. I can only really afford it because I’m leaving this country in a year, otherwise I’d need to get a different job or a different flat. I make above median wage and struggle to rent a flat on my own.
What happens once there are no new renters to fill the properties? You cannot price people out this like forever and expect to keep finding new tenants, meaning landlords will either have to lower their rents or face being unable to pay their mortgage (not that I think those are bad things for landlords).
Someone got paid to reach that conclusion.
People generally support reducing BTL to help FTB, but the flip side is increasing rents since the supply on the rental market is restricted. Also add in the fact that people are stuck buying and selling flats due to cladding issues.
The root cause is lack of supply of housing as always.
you guys are a few years behind ireland on this and i can absolutely guarantee you without serious reform very quickly this will get a lot worse
NHS broken, food banks at record usage, record inflation, record energy bills, and a broken housing system.
What is actually working under the Tories?
I honestly don’t know how much more the UK can take.
Fuck the poor and the cycle continues, rebellion is needed as probably nothing else works.
I can’t wait for the landlords to weigh in on this one…
<opens popcorn…>
I am counting my stars I bought last year. Last month the flat I rented went for £300/month more than what we paid- was in Isle of dogs if you are interested.
The funny part is its normally not tenants paying for this, not directly, its the tax payer. Essentially if your on benefits you get your housing paid, so when people have headlines like “woman with 5 kids gets 5 grand a month in benefit, old white people should be angry” their not even seeing half that, most of it will be housing which is going to a rich landlord, yet people are pissed off at the woman.

Rent controls are needed, simple as that.
We will fix this by making homelessness illegal!
