  1. It’s a pity the article doesn’t do a simple realty check: comparing it which the actual sales of meat products in shops in those countries.

  2. Unmentioned in the article is the improvement of availability and variety of vegetable produce.

    Of course people will eat less meat when more/better/cheaper vegetables are available.

  3. Article places a lot of emphasis on protein. Protein is not the problem, as long there is sufficient calories in a diet it will always cover the recommended protein intake. There are no recorded protein deficiencies in places like Ikaria or Okinawa where the traditional diet is almost exclusively plant based.

  4. It’s important for the environment to eat less meat so that Germany can keep their coal plants running and US soccer moms can keep driving their 5 tons SUV to Walmart.

  5. I will look at it from another angle. If protein substitutes for meat and the like increase, and meat production is reduced, then if a problem arises, it means that especially in big cities will starve to death. I think we just have to dive into our national cuisines and eat according to the season.
