> In an interview with The Telegraph on the eve of Saturday’s rail strikes, Grant Shapps, who has a fridge in his car, accuses the union bosses of being motivated by “outmoded class war”.
FIFY, *Telegraph*
Granted his opinions on Ukraine don’t have to matter to the issue of the rail strikes but Jesus Christ.
Yes, there is a fascist group in Ukraine and it gets less than 1% of public support.
Yes the Ukrainian government has been eye-wateringly corrupt.
Neither of these things mean that they deserved to be obliterated by Russia. Frankly Russia’s issues with fascism and corruption are far worse.
It looks like Starmer’s effort to distance himself from this character was well calculated, after all.
Ah, the Telegraph. Tory propagandist shitrag. They’re seriously aligning these headlines with that tit Shapps heroically standing against Union action. Unions that stand for the working class and jobs that provide prospects that you don’t need to be a chinless wonder with connections to get into.
“The union bosses are motivated by some outmoded class war that hankers after days that have gone. Much to their upset, they’re not bringing the country to a standstill because people are able to work from home,” said Mr Shapps.
“The world has changed. It’s moved on. These union bosses are dinosaurs who haven’t realised that’s the case.”
Paint the target as being weak and ineffective but also smear them at the same time because they’re powerful and dangerous (to the rich).
A terrible opinion to hold and a disgraceful thing to say.
“and the influence of the EU provoked “trouble” in the invaded country.”
This in particular.
Ukraine wanted to have closer ties with the EU, Ukraine’s president Yanukovych, reneged on this at the last minute to join the Russian Eurasian Economic Union instead, leading to protests, the Euromaidan and his ousting, the Euromaidan ending on the 22nd February, with Russia invading Ukraine on the 20th of February.
I read up on Ukraine’s recent history myself because of the recent events and it seems clear that Russia has exerted its influence there for years and has most likely played a major role in creating this corruption in Ukraine he also refers to.
Seriously though, this is a very good and very enlightening thing.
Half the politico lightweights were calling for ‘Lynch as PM’ a month or so ago, without realising the man was also an ardent Brexiter.
What people really need to realise is that sometimes people can be right about one thing, and wrong about another. It’s not all black and white.
And the beautiful thing? Even if you think he’s completely wrong about the EU, you can *still* completely agree with his stances on employment.
You don’t need to 100% buy into a person and their views.
Almost word for word he repeats Kremlin propaganda line s about Ukraine’s ‘Nazi problem’. He then blames EU for causing the invasion of Crimea and Donbass in 2014 that started this and finally compares news about China’s actions to reports of Saddam Hussein’s WMDs.
He’s a tankie through and through. Most if not all union officials in the UK are just embittered old, white male tankies who think the wrong side won the Cold War and are constantly dreaming of leading a Fidel Castro style Communist revolution to overthrow the West.
This is what really drives men like Mick Lynch, not concern for their workers. Lynch is just another Len ‘Mafia’ McCluskey. A delusional power-mad cunt, a multimillionaire baron who LARPs as a working-class revolutionary out to make history.
These are Mick ‘the tankie’ Lynch’s actual words:
On the EU,
>Starmer and Lynch also differ on Brexit. Lynch and the RMT supported leaving. Why? “Because the European Union has privatisation embedded in its constitution,” he said. “I don’t like the idea that you give your sovereignty and democracy away to a load of bureaucrats and bankers.”
On Ukraine,
>“The EU also provoked a lot of the trouble in Ukraine. It was all about being pro-EU and all the rest of it,” he said, referring to the pro-EU Maidan revolution in Ukraine in 2014. “There were a lot of corrupt politicians in Ukraine. And while they were doing that, there were an awful lot of people [in Ukraine] playing with Nazi imagery, and going back to the [Second World] war, and all that. So, it’s not just that this stuff has sprung from one place.”
>Lynch’s line about the role of Nazi or neo-Nazi groups in Ukraine resembles that of the Kremlin’s. But in March, Lynch and the RMT condemned the invasion and called for the Russian army to withdraw.
And on China,
>He is also sceptical of the prevailing narrative about China. “I don’t know if what I’m told by the Telegraph and by American policy writers [about China] is true,” he said. “We were told Saddam Hussein was the greatest threat to the Western world that there had ever been… what he actually had was a very oppressive regime against his own people, and a collection of pots and boilers that he’d strung together as so-called Scud missiles. We were told all that by the same analysts that are telling us now that China wants to commit all of this aggression against all of these people,” Lynch said. “We should stop being so belligerent towards countries”.
>But does he think, for instance, that Uyghurs are subject to slave labour in China’s Xinjiang province? “Slave labour is happening in Leicester,” he retorted. “Why do we want to start on the Uyghurs if we don’t want to start on the Palestinians?”
I know many Leftists will agree with him and share his hate for Ukrainians(who betrayed ‘socialism’ by leaving the Soviet Union) and justify the Uyghur genocide in China(China good, so Uyghurs bad) but the Telegraph is right and he only exposed himself for all the world to see. Union officials are just old, white male tankies still angry about the USSR losing the Cold War and everything they do comes from their delusional dreams of a new Communist revolution to overthrow the Western world, not any genuine concern for their workers.
Union leaders almost always repugnant tankies.
It’s a mystery why unions aren’t more popular.
I liked this guy for a short while.
Then he kept talking.
It’s pretty funny how anyone who acknowledges the west’s role in this disaster is branded as a traitor Russian communist fascist third column bot troll Trump whatever
It’s the usual “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”
For the British hard left the enemy is always the good ole USA.
Hence they end up siding with Putin, Saddam, Hamas, etc…
Kinda feared more bad takes would be coming once I heard he supported Brexit, and yeah, seems aligned with the brain dead tankie position
There’s some leftists who will oppose the west because it is the west, who will presume that it must be on the wrong side of any given issue because its been on the wrong side of other issues, even if it means they have to excuse authoritarians to do so. At best, they’re obscenely misguided, at their worst, they’re a bunch of Stalinists – who really are just fascists with a red coat of paint!
No one, least of all a lefty, should have any business defending a straight up act of Russian imperialism against Ukraine.
Lynch is a dinosaur
Too many people here have an opinion. Opinions are not fact. Have any of you looked at the history of Russian’s in Eastern Ukraine or the Crimea. Do you know that the Ukraine has been bombing the Russian speaking people of the Donbas region for years. Do any of you remember the Cuban Missile crisis ? The Americans spat their dummy out when Russia tried to install ballistic missiles there. What’s the difference between that And the USA & NATO putting them on Russia’s border? How about the Ukraine being refused entry into the European Union because of their corruption and their Nazi Azof military wing. Things are not what your governments tell you, propaganda starts at home, Critical thinking is required

Propaganda 101.
