Our football is trembling at sky-high energy costs: “It becomes hallucinatory when the field heating has to be switched on.”

  1. Throughout this entire article, you can hear the sound of the world’s tiniest violin playing in the background.

  2. Wastes precious water in summer by spraying an empty field

Wastes precious energy in winter by heating grass

Wastes precious taxpayer resources for everything else

    “Why won´t anybody help us!?!?!”

  3. Those poor soccer clubs. As a sign of solidarity, I shall lower my thermostat at home.

Hopefully they can receive some more tax benefits and sponsorship money from gambling companies to overcome the financial ruin they are facing.

  4. Bit tone deaf that this article is focused on clubs in the highest division.

On my priority list of what I worry about regarding the high energy costs, these overly subsidized overly funded by millionaires as an expensive hobby soccer clubs are right at the bottom.

It’s an interesting thought how this inflation will impact smaller sports clubs in general. It must not be cheap to heat a lot of those buildings & facilities in Winter, and they have thin budgets…

  5. Not sure if this is written by some sport hater, that wants people to pile on – or written by some sport lover, that is simply massively tone deaf.
In this article complaints about not being able to literally light 1000’s of non-functional lights for as long as they wanted, and heating in open air that’s no longer an option.
The alternative of not playing in cold weather is unimaginable to these people apparently.
The notion that noone ever questioned if heating an outside area is even still a good idea in a climate & energy crisis is probably the biggest problem.
In the meanwhile there are people freezing to death in their homes.

  6. So, we’re all being asked to reduce energy and water usage, not just to reduce the bill but also to make us more independent from enemy nations and we can fill our reserves back up.

But these fucking dipshits, complain they can’t turn on thousands of lights, heat up an outdoor field, while already wasting huge amounts of water keeping those fields nice and green, and wasting our taxes to support their shitty business model.

Fuck professional football. It should be taxed to represent the burden they put on society, and rules applying to everyone else, should apply to them as well. And if they don’t survive, tough luck. There’s about 10 million people and companies that should be earlier in line when being helped out.

  7. Here’s an idea: DON’T SWITCH ON FIELD HEATING, and possibly stop thinking that heating a pitch is a normal thing to do.

  8. Kunstgras mannekes, ambetant om op te spelen, maar besproeing en opwarmen wordt veel minder noodzakelijk.
Also: de abo’s en drank etc zal wellicht de hoogte in gaan de komende maanden/jaren.
