U2 are the only Irish Band in America

  1. I mean, come on… most of them are from over 20 years ago. if that’s the best list you can come up with, yer man has a point

  2. Why do people get offended with how popular U2 is. Some of their stuff in the 80s snd 90s is mind-blowing and they’ve been pretty consistent in later years. L

  3. **The Cranberries** – Delores is dead, and there is no replacing that wail!

**Rory G** – Dead for nearly 30 years

**Thin Lizzy** – Phil has been dead for nearly 40 years, and they don’t have any original members left (depending on how Brian Downey feels).

    **Primordial** – Black metal isn’t very…… accessible.

**Fontaines D.C** – They’re up and coming, but still a bit of an indie quirk. Some bangers though.

**My Bloody Valentine** – Also a bit of an alt rock relic

**Gilla Band / Bitch Falcon** – Never heard of em

**Sinead O’Connor** – Basically persona non grata in the US for her antics on SNL. Ballsy move, but she killed her career.

**Hozier** – Actually should be getting more attention. He is class and super friendly, also an absolute ride. Very boring in interviews though.

  4. I wish people wouldn’t use this sub as a dumping ground for moronic Twitter disagreements.

  5. I don’t care what anyone says u2 are fucking class. The amount of top class songs they have are up there with any band let alone Irish ones.

  6. Having grown up in Brooklyn for most of my life… pogues reign supreme among Irish bands. And you can’t stop em from playing fairy tale of New York all Christmas long.

  7. Regardless of the fact that U2 are better than all the bands named, the OP in the tweet (from what we can see – because clearly a screenshot lacking context is not telling the whole story) says ‘best’ not ‘only’

  8. He never says they are the only Irish band, and he is perfectly entitled to his opinion that they are the best – probably a lot of people would agree with him, in the US and elsewhere.

  9. U2 are better than the Cranberries. I’m not saying U2 are good, but the Cranberries were shite. (There’s been a lot of rewriting history since Dolores died but lets call a spade a spade here.)

  10. seriously thought that ireland produced u2 and was like, “can’t top that, no more bands for the rest of history.” thanks for clearing this up

  11. In fairness to U2, Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree (jesus fuck), Rattle and Hum, and Achtung Baby are all albums that any band or artist would DREAM of releasing. Mind you, they’ve also released a mighty raft of shite as well, including the Edge rapping (badly) while getting pawed. I mean, FFS.

But this is the joy of commercial music stations over in America – been years (literally) since any station over here played any sort of alternative music beyond corporate playlists. Still tho, even beyond what yer man said, The Stunning, An Emotional Fish, Aslan, Frank and Walters, The Frames (well…), Fatima Mansions, Bell X1, Otherkin (well…), Hothouse Flowers, Ash… christ, we’re boxing well above our weights for a smallish country.
