Oorlog is lelijk.

  2. Shit idea, but we already knew that back then. The Dutch government of the late 1940s could have probably fully accomplished this, but they only managed to deport 15% of Germans living in the Netherlands at the time.

Something just tells me that the idea wasn’t all that populair with either the government or the people at the time.

  3. Personally, I think it’s understandable, but stupid af. In a time where we needed cooperation, we distanced. But thats a very Rosy view of history, it took a full 2 generations to get over what happened. We good now, but a response like that is just natural, people suck.

So, as a dutch person, it was understandable.

  4. Sounds icky. It is easy to condemn this almost 80 years later, but I would want to know the details. How were these Germans selected? Where they random Germans, or known Nazis? If you look at how Russia uses ethnic Russian populations elsewhere to influence or invade other countries, having a large population from a hostile country that has voting rights etc. is a real security risk.

However, if you are going to forcefully deport them, they should be allowed to move all their belongings at the cost of the state, and their real estate should be bought out by the government above market price.

  5. I understand that they wanted to get rid of all civilian Germans who worked in one way or another for the occupying forces.
But there would also be a group of Germans that had migrated to escape the Nazi regime , but got stuck in mainland Europe instead of getting to the UK or USA.

  6. They stated that they would first deport Germans who arrived during the war, is this the 15% that was actually deported? Because I don’t mind throwing those people out of the country at all.

This is what I can read on the Dutch wiki, as far as I kan see only those who showed support for the German occupation were deported, good riddance.

  8. Different time with different morals. Easy to say it is wrong when you didn’t suffer from the war. I never had any problems with Germans. Actually, I think Dutch and Germans are quite similar on many aspects. However, I notice my grandmother who lived during the war always had some dislike towards Germans. No hate, but also never forgotten what happened.
