> I have a question regarding this intersection at the Sint-Lievenslaan in Gent, with three lanes; one going left and straight, and two going right, turning into a three lane road [here](https://goo.gl/maps/AKgYR1jZyLHzGaLj6). Top view is outdated but street view is up to date.
As far as I know, the car in the rightmost lane, has to turn into the lane closest to the curb (or the rightmost lane), and the other car turning right into the lane next to that as illustrated [here](https://imgur.com/a/9vTuNes). Green lines showing how I think it is done, and the red line showing what a lot of other drivers do. [Screenshot](https://imgur.com/a/udNQQK6) from street view of the intersection.
In other words the blue car can choose either of the straight going lanes, and the red car has to turn into the rightmost lane. Is this the correct way? Or is this intersection an exception to the rule?

Afaik you have to stick to your lane in the turn, and switch lanes after you´ve turned. I see no reason why this would be different here.
(So both your red and green lines are wrong)
The intersection is a bit broken yes
Before the redesign, there were stripes on the floor and it was clear how to drive. Even today you can still vaguely see them, but not from a car
Indeed, most right lane goes to the right. Left lane goes to the middle, that’s how it should be done. And yes most people do it wrong because almost everyone needs the left two lanes and basically no one needs to right lane.
It also doesn’t help that they removed all lines now
There are many examples in Ghent of road signs and lines being something totally weird, improvised. It’s annoying. Especially when you throw cyclists in the mix, because you cannot even refer to the law because some of those situations aren’t covered by the law.
I think the intent is that most cars would go right and then straight on the main road. In this case it would be both red and blue picking the outmost LEFT lane. Blue left and red middle and ignore the turn right, right most road.
That being said, I do think you are right and have no clue if it’s actually correct.
This would make a lot more sense if the turn right road would not exist. ( or should have a ramp later on)
je kan altijd voorstellen doen aan de mensen die deze dingen moeten opvolgen als je denkt dat het beter kan.

Heh, I only had to see your drawing to know exactly which intersection you were talking about.
