Well this isn’t even the slightest bit surprising is it
Just another reason why I no longer pay my TV licence.
So the government are now controlling the output of the national broadcaster. How very Russian. But I suppose if we call it fascism, some Tory somewhere will say we’re overreacting right?
Perfectly normal for the country to be run this way. Thank god Corbyn didn’t get into power.
Must be the most active tory out there.
Most of them just sit on their arses collecting money from their second and third ‘jobs’
And still the tories will claim that the bbc has a left wing bias
Yet you will find perceived left-wing bias within the BBC according to Tories. Both can’t be right.
This speech is definitely worthy of a watch, rather than just taking info from the headlines. She’s definitely going to cause a stir. I can see the tories scrabbling around finding ways to discredit this so quick.
I really liked Maitlis after her work on the Prince Andrew story. Will be really sad to see her get blacklisted by the bbc now, she is one of the few journalists left who has teeth.
Tim Davie? Wasn’t that why he was made Director General in the first place?
The only people this is a surprise to is tory voters
No shit. Puts to bed the clearly nonsensical “both sides complain about the beeb so it’s clearly doing things right” BS
the BBC’s board is chosen by the government. 4 members of the board are
chosen by the government and then the other 10 members are chosen by
those 4 members.
And yet they just helped force a Tory MP to resign and almost every journalist leaving the BBC can’t wait to declare their leftie views on Twitter.
While the Tories defund and try to close the BBC, despite it being part of their propaganda arm.
Nah, not buying it.
Yes, Robbie Gibb is on the board.
So is Muriel Gray, who is a very vocal Labour supporter. Appointed by a Conservative government and a recruitment panel led by a Conservative supporter. Strangely Emily doesn’t mention her.
Honestly, I don’t know whether Maitlis’ speech has any real validity at this stage. I haven’t listened to it yet and reporting on these issues is often poor, even by the Guardian. Maitlis has long been known to sit in a particular political camp and was evidently straining to vocalise her views.
But I did think it was worth checking in the first instance whether the BBC Board was unfairly balanced or not, and it doesn’t appear to be. Gibb is just one voting member of 12.
Tories cynically used the Saville scandal to get their people into ‘oversight’ positions.
She’s trying to rewrite history for her new competitive brand promotion but she played her part in propping it up all these years. She comes off as a bit stuck up. BBC is ‘naturally Tory’ AF though in the narratives it chooses to highlight. She’ll just platform her middleware journalism from a new office chair.
All the tropes of a slow but deliberate play to push the UK to an authoritative state.
– Restrictions on protest.
– More control over state broadcasting.
– A deportation focused assylum seeker policy. (Rwanda)
– Corruption over PPE contracts and loans given out.
– Both Sunak & Truss calling for leaving the ECHR.
These are the main for me, anyone any to add?
No wonder she wants to leave. Amazing journalist not afraid of anyone but the BBC want to keep their Oxford mates and Tory chums as mates. Only thing they really aim for is to keep their comfortable positions.
Last 2 political editors are know Tory learners. Laura K fawned at Johnson in interviews. It was pathetic.
Only just realised? This has been going on longer than I’ve been alive.
Sorry to say but this has been very obvious to people outside of the UK for some time. For a lot of non-Brits, BBC was seen as an unimpeachable news source for decades. But somewhere around Davey C’s premiership things changed. BBC is still pretty great but simply cannot be trusted when it comes to coverage of British politics.
What a shock. The state broadcaster is dominated by the ideology of the state.
