Guys come on, theres plenty of socialising you can do that is free/cheap. Its vital we stay social for our mental health. There is always something you can do.
I don’t do things like pubs/clubs, bowling, cinema as much as before the pandemic, They’ve been replaced with hiking, paddle boarding and just getting together outside. Seems somehow the lockdown routine stuck around. We would have never just said let’s go for a walk before it.
Can confirm. Would love to go out more, get back into hobbies and try meet new people but everything I am even remotely into costs money, which I am lacking.
Yea I might go to the pub. Oh hold on they all shut.
It’s not just affecting extroverts, it’s affecting introverts because everyone is now indoors and want to talk.
That’ll balance out after January when staying indoors costs more than going out, except we’ll be socialising round a bin fire in the local park.
That’s without factoring the rise in energy bills facing businesses. Owners won’t be able to absorb a five-fold rise in bills and it will be passed onto the customer, which will only do more to drive people away and keep them at home.
Yep. Lack of money, social issues since lockdown, mental health issues as a result of both.
With hanging out and friendship though, I still think the culprit is social media. Without it we would be having this conversation in person. Since friend groups are less of a thing now, and lots of people lost friends and acquaintances, there’s less room in our society for accountability.
I dunno bout you, but the amount of plan bailing, friend fading, and straight up ghosting is off the charts this year. It’s not just me, I’m fascinated by the phenomenon and ask around. There no social consequences for not being friendly anymore, no-one to really call each other out and step each other up. Instead we have this pretend mess of conversation and watching people eat food on YouTube as a substitute.
Folks may think we don’t need each other to survive, but we do. Buuuuttt, seems like the UK is option for ‘hang separate’ rather than ‘hang together.’ It’s still our responsibility. Reach out.
It will get better when the avatar sequel comes out.
