I work 12h shifts, if i could do 36h shifts i would do them aswell. The faster i got my hours done, the better.
Ik heb de luxe dat ik mijn dagen redelijk zelf kan indelen. Ik ga met de fiets werken en 4x/week op en neer fietsen is interessanter dan 5x. En dan kan ik hier en daar nog is een dag thuiswerk inplannen. Echt een geweldige luxe. Die vrije dagen komen goed van pas en de dagen dat je thuiswerkt is een beetje uitslapen ook al een hele hulp.
Ik heb ook in systemen gewerkt dat ik 22 uur in één weekend deed, en dan moet je sowieso tijd vrijmaken doorheen de week. zo’n rustdag op een weekdag, als iedereen op kantoor zit, is echt zalig. Heel ‘t stad voor mij alleen, niet aanschuiven in de bank of het postkantoor. En al mijn kameraden maar denken dat op zaterdag/zondag werken zo vreselijk is. Just niks.

This doesn’t bode well for the next generation of kids. How much time is left for parenting in such a system? Park the kids in various ‘opvang-initiatieven’? Then not see them on your day off because they are at school… I feel that kids are not a possession like a car that you just park somewhere until you have time to use them.

Naast het thuiswerk zou deze flexibiliteit deels een oplossing kunnen bieden aan de file problemen. Een grotere spreiding van de werkuren -door flexibele keuzes – kan dan leiden tot een grotere spreiding van het woon-werkverkeer en files verminderen.

Als ik me goed kan herrineren hebben ze dit ook volledig ingevoerd in Ijsland. Waar het gevolg dan is dat de mentale gezondheid van de werknemers beter is geworden en er minder risico is op burn-out en stress.. Ik weet dat ik dit niet volledig mag vergelijken maar aan de resultaten te zien zou ik het gerust willen proberen. Een extra dag vrij zou handig zijn.
Een werkdag is bij mij van 07u45 tot 12u45 en van 15u45 tot 18u45. Dat zijn echt wel heel lange dagen, rekening houdend dat ik in mijn 3 uur “pauze” ook nog mijn huishouden doe of boodschappen. Ik werk 4/5 omdat ik toch die extra tijd kan gebruiken om te recuperen. Wat ben je dan met je dag extra?
In Zweden en Denmarken zijn er net goede resultaten @ 5u per dag werken.

Remember kids, when the workers movements came up with the 8h workday, opponents said it would break the economy and couldn’t possibly work. Weekends? Nonsense! paid leave? Madness! At every step they’ll tell you that working less is economical suicide, even when it’s demonstrably not.

Apparently availability is more important than ‘quality time’ to them. Limited group, but still. Also came into contact with many young adults who weren’t happy about such an arrangement. Day off not always a choice so maybe not different for both parents.

The entire discussion about 4-days workweek is about working 8 hours a day for 4 days NOT jamming 5 days of work in 4 days.
My wife works in Brussels and needs to take 2 trains (because we do not live in a city) and a subway. This means leaving at 7.15 and returning, depending if she got her connection somewhere between 17.35 & 18.05.
Add 2 hours or something and she can literally kiss her kids goodbye.
I work closer by but it would mean I would need to take care of the kids: no organisation would be open that early and late if we add 2 hours.
This might be something for the young folks but that’s it.
While “the world” is talking about an extra weekend day, Belgium is scared of losing 8 hours of work.
Always heard computers and automatisation & AI would make our lives easier. For companies to add more profit perhaps? Employees still do the same amount of work and mental health is disregarded.
Work from home? Nuhuh! Can’t watch over your shoulder so return as soon as possible!
Do your work in 4 days? Only if you do the amount of 5 days.
If you do “mental labour”, working longer doesn’t necessarily mean more profit: fatigue, the “other party” being unavailable, or simply there being no work: it’s not that you can go and start sweeping the floor or something.

We already upped work from 40h to 2x38h per family unit.
Practically, this is impossible to combine with good parenting, as you need be to help with homework and cook every day, and also be there for your child.
Now if you were allowed to do 40h in one go on meth…

Oh Lord. Even the most basic employee has enough IQ to understand that cramming an extra two hours of work every day in a 4 day work week (to compensate for that day off) is absolutely bullshit. You gotta have some hyper form of ADHD to then make something useful of that day off after those long four work days. You basically would live at your work during those four days you gotta work. This is, yet AGAIN, typical backwards Belgian reasoning. Why are we so afraid of actual evolution and damn progress in this country!? Also, for those with kids: hope you got some grandparents available to take care of your kids, ‘cus you for sure can say goodbye to them if this system were to be implemented.

Yeah after 6-7 hours I’m already running on fumes with almost no productivity, so that’s a no for me.
