Countries by number of teams in the Champions League

  1. Corruption has been involved in football in Turkey and we have 0 teams in the league after 27 years.

    Thanks to our visionary administration

  2. One of the reasons that I have stopped watching CL the last 8 or so years. It used to be this exciting thing that you didn’t know who would win. Between 1978 and 1997 you had several teams that won the trophy for the first time. Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, Hamburg, Juventus, Steaua,Porto, PSV, Red Star, Barcelona, Marseille, Borussia Dortmund. From 1998 until today you only have one, Chelsea. The reason is that UEFA opened up the competition to several teams from the big countries, made sure those teams will be largely protected from playing each other until later in the competition and then gave the biggest part of the earnings to them. This crated a feedback loop where big teams have all the money, money buys talent, talent brings success, success brings money, money brings talent. I am bored of watching the same clubs on top.

  3. Compare that to 20 years ago. At this point just put all the teams from the top 4 leagues. Champions league my ass.

  4. I haven’t been watching football for some time, but what’s the background to this? Why does GER have more teams than spain or england, and why does turkey have none?
