In Poland “crime” is way, way more often about some weird financial scams than your stereotypical gun robbery. It’s a rather safe country.
Did you even read the fucking chart? It’s not “crime rate” it’s “people worried about crime”.
% Worried?
I’m from South Africa – Poland is lvl 1 lol
US and the World both at 27%. Pretty sure that confirms the US is the world.
“Crime & violence” – I hear it in my head with “Love & marriage” theme song from “Married with children”
Of course, how are you meant to be worried about violence when you are already spending 24/7 worrying if the goverment won’t just make half the country go bankrupt…
I’m from Sweden and when I lived in Poland I never felt safer. Could walk in the streets during night and was not worried
Bo poljaky wirjat w boga
It’s interesting but it’s worth noting that people’s perception of safety does not equal safety.
In fact I remember a research paper that measured the highest amount of worry about safety in the richest and safest parts of Warsaw. People were more worried about safety in Wilanow than Praga
if you’re not into local football clubs, you’re safe
Sweden 3rd in the entire world hmmmmm
Crime & Violence (%) WORRIED. So although Poland might be a safe country, this is only a poll from Ipsos that represents public perception of crime as a problem and is not a direct representation of the prevalence of crime itself.
Edit; also I looked into this Ipsos poll and Poland doesn’t rank as well in other categories as per the POVs of the Polish people (myself included lmao), so this is just one category out of a much more comprehensive review of the perceptions of different people from different countries about very different issues.
russia 146%
Well, it may be an anecdotal evidence, but after moving from London to Poznań I feel way safer here. Especially when returning home quite tipsy on a Friday night.
Sweden has a lot of violence? Never would have thought.
Not to hijack the thread, but Sweden seems oddly high. I don’t want to point any fingers, but I can imagine why there might be this perception but 57%!
You propably won’t get robbed by a criminal with a gun, but you’ll definietly get your bike stolen. Also goverment and banks fuck you every day
FUCK YEAH! THIRD PLACE! SUCKERS!
No safer place than home!
Holy shit, what happened in Sweden?
I lived in Spain and in Germany, then moved to Poland. Here by difference I feel safe when going for a walk.
My worries are about getting stabbed or robbed, so in my case it’s way better than in Spain (Madrid, Valencia, Bilbao, Santander) and Germany (Berlin, Ingolshtad…) where you really can feel really insecure and this can from both genders. Well, we know why and what are the main focus of the problems there that I not have in Poland
That’s exactly the reason why I decided to move from Mexico🇲🇽 to Poland 🇵🇱, best decision of my life
What are those percentages supposed to represent?
most of crimes committed these days in poland are white collar crimes, fraud, embezzlement, tax-related offenses, that kind of stuff. violent crimes have been dropping steadily since the 90s. last year, the amount of murders was cut in more than half in comparison to the early 2000s, for instance (and it’s been better before covid hit, but yeah). an average person doesn’t come into much contact with violence. of course it doesn’t mean we can’t get scammed or whatever, but the aspect of not feeling like our physical form is in any way threatened definitely helps feel safe.
Sweden? 57%?
Still not safe enough
Sweden = Let people in from completely opposite “cultures” and give them all the benefits = Shit
I’ve heard the quite opposite, from different people going on holiday there.
Every time I leave Poland for another country, I have to realize that it is not so super safe in other countries.
Yes, thefts, assaults, or robberies happen here sometimes. But it’s usually so rare that if someone robs a store with an armed robbery, the next week the news about it is on all the stations on TV.
I remember going to visit family in Germany and walking around with my phone sticking out of my pocket a lot. My aunt asked me “aren’t I afraid they will steal it from me?” I realized that this sometimes made me feel too safe. The most dangerous thing that can happen to you in Poland is at most the theft of a bicycle, or a car (which is relatively rare anyway). >!Well, unless you are stupid and fall for some scam with the sale of cookware or bed sheets.!<
Do you know why you sometimes hear about some beatings of non-Poles in Poland? Because we hear about it too. It’s such an unbelievable situation that one foreigner gets beaten up that then the whole country talks about it for the next 2 weeks.
In France (Paris), a drug addict on hunger tried to robe me, saying he will kill me if I do not give him all cash I have on me – story ended up in police station. In Warsaw, a guy on a tram wanted my cash too, but after a 10-minute chat, he changed his mind saying: if some will want to beat or robe you here (Praga, Warsaw district), say you are from me, and you’re safe, LOL
Many times in France I was witnessing a robbery, very often on subway (never hold up your phone in your hand while seating right next to the door). There are warnings (vocal and written) all over in the Parisian subway, beware of pickpockets. Never seen such a thing in Poland.
Of course, not seeing any violence in Poland does not mean it does not exist. Terrible stories occur.
Hope you’ll stay safe no matter where you are.
Chile is a very safe country

look at the low homicide rate
Nice..
As a kid I went to visit my Polish parents in Denmark. They worked on a farm in a small unknown town in the middle of nowhere. I remember the place as really tidy and generally on the rich side, but hey, aren’t Danes owning nice houses in a very different position in life than Polish expats working on a farm?
Anyway I remember how the Danish were basically running away, taking away their kids from the porches, abruptly closing down the shutters etc. every time we’ve walked through the village. They were so scared of people from Poland.
Maybe that’s why we don’t worry about crime, because we’re the ones people are scared of 🙂
(no offense, the Danes were really nice, I guess just better safe than sorry I guess? it was 15 years ago btw)
I live in Warsaw and I was always kind of amazed how safe it can be. I used to go to the metro with a backpack open on my back (by accident), sometimes with my wallet visible. I remember people would tell me that my backpack is open, but nothing ever was stolen (tfuu tfuu). I also forgot my bag at McDonald’s twice at like 1am, came next day and it was still there.
In the past I was also biking at night or going back in the night bus. Now I would be more scared to do so. As a woman I do feel a bit unsafe and prefer to be more precautious at night.
World thinks the US is a crime ridden hell hole but its just that the US has so many big cities and big cities combined with free reign capitalism creates crime which this combined with so many uploaders from big cities creates the imagine that America is a crime hell. Like each of the cities has safe suburbs and then the rest of the state consists of cities that are not really that bad.
Should mention that this is about how people feel about violence and not how safe a country is. Although here is very safe and you can go out at night without much care no way in hell is safer than Japan. That place is what you get when you start the game of life in tutorial mode.
This isn’t a graph of the criminality rate in Poland, it’s a graph saying how safe people feel in Poland.
As an African, the best thing that happened to me was discovering Poland. After living for 10 years in 3 countries including Russia and Italy, Poland still remains the best.
The Polish people fucking respect Africans, even the children smile at us. I planned to stay temporarily, but I might as well remain with these amazing people.
Even though my gf and I are both Africans, my children will get a Polish name😂.

You won’t feel in danger if you become the danger
