Gotta get this line open again

  1. Houses built on the line in South Sligo/North Mayo. It’ll never open again, I’m afraid. More rhan likely sections will end up as greenways.

  2. It would be good to have a Dublin to Derry line to serve part of the Dublin commuter belt, the north midlands and the centre of Ulster.

  3. It would be nice, but this line has nowhere near the population density for it to be viable and we have much bigger priorities, like Navan, light rail in the cities, DART underground.

  4. Let’s say they decided to connect Donegal to Dublin. What would be the most practical route? Extend the Connolly – Sligo line? Or Dublin – Derry – Donegal?

Would Letterkenny be the best place to have the main connection to?

  5. Extend that line to Donegal. It’s so weird that just because the population isn’t as dense as the east coast that the west doesn’t deserve to have interconnected rail services. If the point is to reduce car dependence then this should be a good thing.

  6. Continue it up to Derry through Donegal and also new line direct from Limerick to cork then you have a massive improvement, and like new lines don’t have to go where the old lines were like there probably not the most efficient now anyway new lines have to be built if it is going to be fast and efficient and Alot of old lines are single track which are very ineffecient

  7. Wouldn’t be a bad idea and then to extend to Donegal.

You can already get a train from Limerick to Galway via Clare as is so it would be the case of extending it if possible.
