There’s a looming unprecedented energy cost crisis that’s going to send alot of us into poverty this Winter.

  1. So my very limited understanding is that during the winter electricity prices are going to go way up based of gas supply issues and the energy price is an European price not an individual state price, even though we’re not all integrated grid wise?

Also a high percentage of our electricity comes from renewables during the winter so the high price will actually go to corporations like the ESB?

  2. So many people have dodgy attic doors that don’t seal right and is uninsulated. Anyone can fox this ssue. It helps. Also insulate all your pipes, even handbasin pipes.

  3. Find an empty barrel, throw in some garbage, fire it up. Get that nice smokey garbage smell in your house…. Follow me for more tips on saving €€€ on your energy costs.

  4. It’s going to be a weird few months. Basically, like it or not, this is the consequences of a war that we are being indirectly impacted by.

Unfortunately, it’s going to be a very hard lesson for Europe, which will result in diversification of energy supplies but it’s going to be a very bumpy few months.

  5. Them skin tight joggers are gonna be really handy this winter I don’t care if you can see my massive balls squeezed into them like a sliced apple

  6. worst I can see is that there maybe occasional power cuts, no biggie if you grew up in the 70’s or 80’s. Compared to 50 years houses have better heating systems and houses are better insulated. When I was a kid we only had heating in the living room, no other heating around the house, it was big blankets and hot water bottles after that

  7. Love how everyone here is coming up with practical DIY solutions for around the house, when the most practical solution would be to take a stand against the energy suppliers with sky rocketing profits intent on fucking us all. Why are we allowing ourselves to be fucked like this?

  8. The fact that ‘yeah, you can lose some fucking money for a year or two’ is not an option for the utility companies making record profits is a total sickness

  9. Govt could step in, fix energy prices by hammering the profits companies are making…or simply nationalise energy completely. Capitalism doesn’t work, nor does all this “oh, we used to live in artic temperatures and it never did us any harm” stuff. We need to jettison this individualistic, self-interested mantra. This is Europe not the US.

  10. Costs aside, it’s looking increasingly likely that we will be unable to make it through the winter without significant disruption to supply. Other EU states have been doing serious legwork to prepare themsleves, building up gas reserves and whatnot. We’ve seemingly been doing nothing judging by today’s Sunday Business Post report. People are in for a nasty shock this winter.

  11. Serious question but apart from getting extra warm clothing and hot water bottles what genuine tips would you guys give to prepare for a cold expensive winter ahead?

I’m only asking as this is something I’m really worried about because of the price hikes and I’m constantly feeling the cold worse than people around me.

  12. This Winter is going to be hell – our entire apartment is electric so like if we have power outages we can’t make food, or work as I WFH and have no option at least now to go into an office. Not looking forward to how high the bills are going to be.

  13. A shortage of dwellings, rising inflation, and now rising energy costs. I sure do love having the free market regulate prices, what a great system.

  14. Put all of what would be electricity bill cost money into energy stocks, they won’t cut you off until 3/4 billing periods with no payments.. by then you’ll have rode the wave of skyrocketing energy stocks, sell, pay your bill and you’ll even have a few quid left over.

  15. Whatever about heating mostof our electricity supply comes from gas powered stations so were doubly screwed.

Also we have no natural gas storage facilities so we’ll likely have an outage if Liz Truss decides to hoard our imported gas (all of which comes via the UK).

  16. Used to live in an apartment with really poor electric heating and poor insulation. Something fantastic is an electric blanket – makes the bed toasty warm and inviting, uses very little power to do so.
Gives you a lot of scope to reduce heating in a bedroom

  17. Dutch here:
What are you doing with Dutch gas? Are we exporting it or what? We’ve got quite a shortage too… But I’d not be surprised that we sell anything even when we’re short ourselves.

  18. This is going to be the worst winters Europe has ever seen, Germany is shitting itself that people are going to crash the electrical grid using space heaters.

  19. It’s all over Europe and all governments are sugarcoating it… Officials wanna buy time till November when it’s inevitable and to late to really change something.

Gas and heating is estimated / feared to rise up to 400% in extreme cases.

If it’s just poverty one can be happy, our officials fear that we can get homeless families during winter that just couldn’t pay utilities.

  20. I’m dreading the winter. We live in an old apartment complex that has those old windows that never fully shut due to the fact they just slide over each other. There rotting away and single pain. The curtains literally move if it’s windy. We do the normal covering it with a bin bag and tape just means we get no fresh air or sunlight during winter and from outside we do in fact look like we’re a growing den.

I honestly worried we won’t be able to pay our electric we’re already scraping by.

  21. Damn if only companies would stop being greedy maggots and make a little bit less of their incomprehensible profits 🤷‍♂️

  22. How the hell did people live before heating? It is baffling to me.
I don’t know what I’m gonna do in winter. My only plan so far is to wear some heavier and warmer clothes and maybe get some blankets incase I need them. I hope it’s enough.
