100% Polish Couple even though neither of us speak a word Polish

  1. Wait what
So uhh you both have Polish parents but raised in other country than Poland with English being spoken at home?

  2. In other words you’re a Polish-American couple.

You should probably know that a lot of cultures feel a bit insulted by Americans claiming other nationalities.

If you don’t have Polish passports, you aren’t actually Polish.

  3. You are not 100% polish if you are smiling and not complaining about the weather

  4. Literally looks like brother and sister,

wear wig and u will look exactly like ur girlfriend.

  5. Not really Polish than, just Canadian with Polish parents or grandparents

  6. Love this, sorry so many people are jumping to conclusions and acting snobby. I have family who are almost like you, the only difference is they do speak Polish.

Really funny to see what criteria people here decide are necessary for being Polish, when many Polish people would not meet them, now and in the past.

It is ironic considering one of our recurring historical issues is the persistence of Polish nationality regardless of external circumstances.

Anyway, you guys should learn some Polish, you have a good reason!!

  7. I thought the joke was that Poles from the mountains don’t speak Polish.

  8. You may want to learn the language. If you want to stay in touch with the culture and identity, there are just so many things lost in translation that it’s worth sometimes reaching out to sources in polish, not translations.

  9. 100%? Libe both citizenship and nationality? 0% other country? When they ask you “where are you from sir/madame” at the airport you say polish? And if the guy knows polish and starts speaking polish would there be any troubles? These questions keep me awake at night

  10. You really don’t speak a word even? Not even a dziękuję or babcia? How do you speak to your polish family then?

It sounds like you’re Canadian with Polish ancestry. Not Polish.

  11. Why don’t you learn Polish and spread your heritage? Language is very important.

  12. The reason a lot of people are salty in this thread is because you seem to treat polish descent as a cool personality trait, like a lot of Canadians and Americans do. Don’t get me wrong, you seem like lovely people and it’s nice you want some connection with your roots. For us though being Polish is about everyday hardships in Poland and on that basis there are people of Ukrainian and Vietnamese descent that are connected with Poland in more ways than you are.

  13. No, you are Canadian. Ukrainian living in Poland is more polish than you. Just because your grandparents came from Poland doesn’t make you polish.
Also if you somehow have the right to vote in polish elections please don’t do this, people like you have no knowledge of polish politics.

  14. Not speaking polish – check
Smiling to the camera with your teeth out – check
I’m gonna take your polish license for now. Come back when you improve.

  15. ethnicity ≠ nationality

If youre ethnic central european (german) but you grew up in poland, speak the language and see yoursef as polish, then you’re polish.

If you grew up in canada, dont speak the language and have a superficial understanding of what it is to be polish, then you’re probably Canadian.

It’s not a pair of shoes you put on to come across as interesting. It’s the identification with the culture and every surrounding it.
