No real surprise that the colder places are facing greater hardship, but even for place like London this is utterly unsustainable.
The government needs to act and to act yesterday.

This is ironic/comic, considering the whole “Cash for Ash” thing.
Not so long ago they were heating empty barns like saunas.
Is there anything the DUP can’t cock up?

Genuine question: what would you have them do?
The cost of gas is what it is, the Government can’t change that. If they put out subsidies we would still end up paying those back through tax, albeit over a longer period.
This is the biggest transfer of wealth ever. The prices will never come down either.
Holy shit, those figures are SHOCKING
If there aren’t huge riots and unrest this winter I’ll be surprised. This is a major crisis.
Basically anyone who is single and earning below 50k or those who doesn’t own their home is utterly fucked.
What more can you say but shit is well and truly fucked.
Should have gone into politics 80k a year and expenses in return for chatting shit all day.
Police median wage is around 21k-40k per year.
They’re facing heating or eating.
We have laws to make rioting illegal.
Going to prison is 3 hot meals a day, warm room, and some company.
Seems like some unrelated facts but like…. the more you think about it the less the people have to lose.
Honestly, when police are told to stomp rioters choosing between cold or hunger, while also being in the exact same situation as everyone else, how do you think they’ll react?
Do prison sentences really sound that bad when your starving, freezing and the only threat is a 3 meals and a warm cell?
Winters coming for House Tory
Enough is enough. I know i certainly wont be able to afford this espically with the cap rising (again) in october.
Theres a campaign called DontPayUk that seems to be gathering traction to simply not pay the energy bills. Website below:

The more sign up the more chance we have of causing actual change
I bet a fair few people will think they will be fine, only to find themselves in fuel poverty once winter truly kicks in. No one ever wants to imagine it happening to them but with over 50% of people looking at fuel poverty based on this prediction, a lot of people who have always managed are about to find out how little help there is for those who are struggling.
Not just households. Small businesses that that are still struggling after the lockdowns will go under. Lots of them.
Jesus, I knew it was going to be bad but this is eye-popping.
What’s the definition of fuel poverty, 10% of your take home?
We take home 4k a month and even we’re going to be in fuel poverty, technically speaking.
That is (and I cannot state this enough) **fucked**.
We have to begin a campaign of civil disobedience and disruption. The UK has a rich history of just such actions, it is only in recent times that we’ve convinced ourselves we are a nation of craven lickspittles.
The reason the French (as an example country) government doesn’t screw it’s own population over repeatedly is because they have a healthy fear of their population. Our government seemingly has no fear of us at all and that is not good.
For example the recent protests over there regarding the proposed carbon tax that would have disproportionately impacted the poorest in French society. It got stopped because they protested effectively.
Gov aren’t bothered at all, research which HOL peers have their fingers in the big energy companies coffers. They don’t have to declare over 50k so you’ll never know how much is invested in them. A few are even named as directors. Takes a minute or two research to find out exactly why gov are doing nothing to stop this problem.
They’ll just raise the % cap, so the metric doesn’t look so bad
Again this is not the solution but it might help some people;
