Pope condemns treatment of migrants in Europe

  1. If I were the Pope, I’d refrain from using the phrase “shipwreck of civilisation” in reference to migration regardless of the context and intended purpose.

    > “It is easy to influence public opinion by instilling fear of the other,” Pope Francis said.

Even those that vote for political parties that refuse to “instil fear of the other” are opposed to the levels of migration in Europe.

  2. Pope should care about his own business. Why should European people take order from the theocratic monarch of a micro state ?

  3. Then take them into vatican, house them and feed them. And don’t forget to take more of them next time and even more the time after, because you have just created huge incentive for others to cross borders illegally too.

  4. Hilarious 😀

especially considering the same sort of people getting outraged about this is usually the ones that go on about “christian values” and “christian roots and culture” being somehow in danger and so on and so on when they’re coming up with rants and excuses to rage about Africans and middle easterners. 😀

  5. How can he condemn the people of Europe feeling upset about the constant flow of illegal immigrants and the troubles that this influx brings? Crime, gangs, importation of barbaric practices etc.

He lives in his bubble behind Vatican walls. Away from the realities of Europe.

  6. Just wait for the wave of Afghani refugees who will begin arriving in Turkey by about September next year. They’ll be joining the 3.5 million already in Turkey (yay to the west for spending the last 30 years airdropping democracy on the Middle East 250kg at a time).

The EU currently pays Turkey $6 billion a year to stop it simply letting migrants peacefully transit Turkey on their way in to the EU, but once another million+ begin arriving mid next year I’m guessing that Turkey will want to renegotiate the bribe.

Given the terrible state of the Turkish economy, the social discontent the migrants cause in Turkey and how desperate the EU is not to grant temporary asylum to 5 million migrants next year, I’d recommend that Turkey starts the renegotiation at $25 billion/yr and settle for $20 billion.
