are there any legitimate grounds to object to these? Do they cause harm of some sort? Because the article only pointed out loss of agricultural land and potential employment it may have. but I don’t think the solar farm is shutting down any business employing a load of people to set it up
I swear to christ, if it didn’t cost money I’d be objecting to every equestrian expansion after this with “takes valuable land that may be used for non-equistrian purposes” as the reasoning.
>In a submission by representative body for thoroughbred breeders, the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders Association chief executive officer (CEO), Shane O’Dwyer told the council that the operation of the solar farm “is not compatible with the business of stud farming and our members are very concerned that this will have a negative impact on their livelihood”.
One of the most functionally useless forms of land use(horse go fast brrr) vs one of the few power generation types we can use without imports. I hope the appeal is thrown out asap.
Announced this week, there could be blackouts during the winter because of the demand of electricity.
A solar farm is so badly needed and many more too. It may be disappointing for some who had hoped for the land to be used for other things.
10% of the national grid is being used on data centres, the cost of energy is going through the roof. I really hope the objections don’t hold things up, as we really need to act on generating clean electricity.
Get on yer horse
Given that there’s a lot more than 15 incorrigible gobshites in my native Kildare, this sounds like pretty good numbers to me
So breeding is a huge tax issue with a lot not declaring to revenue due to a loophole that I don’t believe has been entirely clarified. Issue relates to whether breeding horses is considered a hobby or a part of a hobby and therefore not liable to tax, similar to selling your car and at what point do breeding horses become a business.
Well I live in Sligo and I don’t want this solar farm blocking my view of the sea. I will always object to this and nothing will change my mind.

People need to relax. These articles are basicaly just clickbait. A Planning objection story is the ultimate bottom of the barrell hack journalism. Planners will completly ignore all third party observations unless there is some legitimate planning issues brought up.
Refusing an application is really risky move for the planners. The reasons for the refusal need to be provided. If the reason have not been thought out properly then the applicant might be able to persue damages. I think this happened a lot in the 70s/80s. Since then local authorities have been really careful. Despite what people think here, in most cases the planners want successful applications. It just makes their life easier too. Straight refusals are rare and usualy very justified.
The proposed site is just around the corner from me. Neighbours have made an action group to try reject it and were looking for signatures. The leaflet they were handing out is ridiculous are so are many of the claims held within. Arguments that it’s a waste of good farmland, reducing biodiversity etc when the land isn’t even being used for farming. One of the main drivers behind it is a wealthy family who moved into the area in the last few years and have just finished they’re massive house which will now be next door to the plant. It’s proper NIMBYism
I swear I am so fucking done with my county. I live in the centre of the ‘equine’ community and there are three types of people here, the people that work with the stud farms, the people who travel out of county for work, and those forced onto dole payments because there’s no jobs here. ‘Provides 4,700 jobs’ meanwhile there are over 200,000 people. Also the stud farms are not on fertile land so idk who they think are fooling. The main form of farming in Kildare is sheep and livestock grazing, so they might be effected unless something like solar grazing becomes a thing. Oh wait,[it already is!!](https://ruralsolarstories.org/farm-friendly/solar-pastures/)! Stupid selfish rich bastards, the lot of them!

What a load of horse crap, surely that’s not a valid reason for objection? Hope the council just laughs in those idiots’ faces and throws out the objection…
