Wimbledon fan to take legal action against Kyrgios

  1. Talk about the Streisand Effect.

Nobody saw who he was talking about, much less knew her name until now.

She’s either an idiot, or wants her 15 minutes.

  2. > Palus, who attended the final with her mother, added: “I am not litigious, but after much consideration I have concluded that I have no alternative but to instruct my solicitors to bring defamation proceedings against Mr Kyrgios in order to clear my name.

    > “The need to obtain vindication and to prevent repetition of the allegation are the only reasons for taking legal action. Any damages recovered will be donated to charity.

I’d quite forgotten she’d even done this and if anyone had reminded me of the incident, I might remember Kyrgios made the allegation but I’d have no clue who was aimed at.

Bit of Streisand effect inaction right here.

Plus it seems fairly easy to see the truth of it. There’s surely cameras everywhere so it’ll be clear if she was doing anything or not.

  3. This will get settled out of court, but if not it would be an interesting case. I think there is some precedent that accusing someone of being drunk is defamation.

  4. >Kyrgios, who lost the final to Novak Djokovic in July, said the woman looked “like she has had about 700 drinks” as he complained to the umpire about her.

His opinion was that the woman looked like she had had 700 drinks. Clearly 700 is an exaggeration, but if his honest opinion was that she was very drunk, surely that’s not slander?
