Just a Canadian in Espoo wanting to share some of the reaction from my country about the kerfuffle with the PM here partying.
IMO the reaction is way over blown, and shows a huge discrimination against women and *especially young people*. Old white male politicians have said and done way worse without anyone batting an eye.
There are people flocking back to this country, us “COVID refugees”. Coming because of how well the society has done under her tenure (not purely because of her, but still).
If you think a PM can’t make a decision after a few drinks then you’re forgetting how many historical figures have been alcoholics and probably drunk on the job.
Edit: emphasis on discrimination against young people
Yeah. I don’t know what her private life has to do with her job. Those are separate and those who don’t see that should go see some specialist.
double standards and really shitty r bots
Why do you think anyone cares about your opinion or your country’s politicians opinions on a domestic incident? Especially since you’re (purpously?) misinterpreting the event to be about dancing, which it is not.
You’re the ones making this bigger than what it is. She admitted wrong-doing, apologized and said she will learn from it. It’s over.
If she weren’t a younger woman she wouldn’t have an army of worshippers defending her every action.
You’re an actual clown if you think that the backlash is because of just ”dancing”
I don’t min the PM partying.
I do however, mind the PM showing poor character and judgement in the people and crowd she hangs out with, and a lack of foresight on how her actions reflecs on both herself professionally and the prime minister as an institution.
Not owning it up once confronted also reflects poorly and is a disappointment.
People who make this a gender issue are chasing a red herring.
Well Canadian politics have really distinguished themselves lately, Dictator Trudeau especially.
Can we go back to nobody knowing or caring what or where Finland is please

Why is this still in the news? There is a war going on and an energy crisis with threats that they’ll be shutting down electricity during the winter…
Anyone who thinks it’s a double standard has either not done any research about previous politicians in Finland or have had their head so far up their ass that they must have missed everything in the past. It really says something about your character if you jump straight to the thought of it being some sort of anti-woman thing going on. Quite the opposite, she’s being defended a million times more than any male politicians have ever been defended here

Double standard indeed. No-one would defend a man to this level, if he was in a similar situation.
Dear Canada:
No one asked.
Voiko vittu lopettaa tän repostin. Eiköhän tää ole jo nähty.
The double standard backlash comes from the videos where theres talk about snorting substances. People have been trying to contact the Dr. who tested marin and he doesnt give any comments. Even thought the drug test supposedly was negative, it was a piss test witch means it was taken week(s) later when everything else except cannabinoids has already cleared out of the system…
As a Finn I think the whole thing is hilarious and it makes it even more hilarious people outside Finland care so much. Doesn’t affect my voting behavior in any way, just entertains my soul.
Also: TORILLE PERKELE!!!!
So if your partner who you have kids with left you at home multiple times in a short window to go get hammered with some very questionable company you would be just fine with it. Then when videos came out where she is getting handsy with the opposite sex pretty much cheating on you you would just say “Go girl party on!”
I’m surprised there are still people who listen to Canadian politicians.
I was planning to come on vacation in September, and it seems the country throws lit party if the world can’t stop talking about the one your PM goes to ! Guess I’ll have fun
Did nobody mention Ilkka Kanerva yet? Minister for foreign affairs in 2008, was forced to resign after it went public he had sent 200 text messages to Johanna Tukiainen, but Sanna Marin parties with same ö-class celebrities, even having party in Kesäranta and it’s totally fine?Double standards anyone?
Foreigners from an inherently inequal anglosphere country pretending they know anything about an inherently equal Finland. How about those Canadian politicians focus on their own issues, like for example stop systematically killing native americans and covering it up for decades.
Former right-wing PM Jyrki Katainen did actually and hit his head after a night out partying. What happened is the whole incident getting laughed off. Very much a ”boys will be boys” moment, when compared to a current PM, whose most pressing charge is dancing in a way that’s common for a young partying woman.
Edit: have to add PM Katainen was a father of two and married so there’s that. Nobody dared to present the question ”How a father could behave such way and leave his wife with the kids”. Quite a few did criticise Marin being irresponsible mother and wife for her accused actions, like talking with a man in a night club.
