Big tech isn’t all tech FYI. Lots of jobs still but the headlines go to the big ones who have been going nuts the last few years and shitcos spending other people’s money while making none of their own.
I am in Tech (you could say “Big” tech!) and the term “headcount freeze” is being bandied about a lot now yeah. The mood I think is more of a cautious one than “the end is nigh!” though I feel. Let’s see what happens I guess hang onto your arse!
Argued this point for several years on this sub, when most were bowing down to these tech companies and arguing not to hit them on tax, and praising them for the jobs they bring.
These wernt jobs for life, these tech companies show zero loyality and only care about profits, and will be up and away when the yearly profits is less than the year before, leaving irelands economy as solely one based on property prices.
I was sitting upstairs on a bus passing the Intel site and a Sunday Times reporter was asking me did I know what was going on there. At the time they were digging a big hole for FAB24 preplanning and pre announcement. He had his back to the hole and the story. I wouldn’t put much faith in the newspapers handle on the state of Tech or big tech.
Wtf would some jackass in the business post know about the future of tech here.
I work in big tech recruitment
Can confirm there is a hiring freeze accross the board and jobs are uncertain
The tech bubble is popping.
my own company recently laid of recruitment contractors. There are still recruiters working…just not the bottom feeders.
There’s definitely a recession coming this year. Expect more lay offs. Going to be interesting to see.
It’ll start with roles not getting backfilled. I don’t think any/many are talking about layoffs yet but we’ll see.
I am in a big tech not mentioned and can confirm we’ve a hiring freeze and certain areas are being let go.
Been hearing this a lot recently. 6 months ago is was dog eat dog when hiring, now it’s getting easier to find talent. I think contractors are going to struggle.
The dev agency i work for some contractors for fin tech companies and no sign of it slowing down.
Graduated in recession. Left the country for the best opportunities. Now I’m about to begin a reskill course to do a complete career change into tech. Ffs, I can’t fucking win.
This recently happened in the company I work for. We let A LOT of people go. Heart-breaking to see
I work for a ‘Big Tech’ company, and they’re approaching interviews that if an applicant is not already based in the specific city this should be HEAVILY factored into the decision.
Basically relocation is proving too difficult at multiple levels as a result of the housing crisis.
