Hungary approves construction of two Russian-built nuclear reactors

  1. Just btw: There is a nuclear company in germany which is basically a fusion of Siemens and Areva (France) producing nuclear fuel rods for a huge part of european nuclear power plants, the name is „Advanced Nuclear Fuels“. Rosatom planned to buy 25% of that company as they were already supplier of uranium before.

  2. guardian didn’t check this properly and took the government at their word…

The regulator did not approve the project, it approved *to have groundworks started*, those unrelated to nuclear safety, they are in fact still waiting for Rosatom to send over the documentation, that they need to scrutinize.

This announcement is an empty political gesture. I guess we’re lucky the regulator still seem to be doing their job even though they partially bent to pressure.

And the Finns didn’t cancel solely because of the war, they said that Rosatom has failed to deliver basic planning information, as if the plans weren’t even finalized yet.
