  1. There are people who have negative energy, when they look at you, they send you that energy, you can have headache, bad lack. This souvenir protect you from that bad energy.

  2. Ah, we have the same thing in Turkey too! It’s sort of like a good luck charm if you will. Anyway this one is looks to be quite well made, its also an awesome home decoration imo. Take care of it.

  3. It’s protection from the “evil eye”. It’s a superstition found not only in Greece but also in the Middle East, North Africa, and I think it can be found in cultures all the way to India and maybe even East Asia.

In a very liberal translation, you get “cursed” by the evil eye when someone’s “looking at you funny”. More specifically if someone is looking at you harboring bad emotions or intentions, like jealousy, you’re marked with the evil eye. This is usually believed to cause either bad luck or symptoms of illness like headaches, dizziness, equivalent to a flu. These charms are supposed to keep the evil eye at bay and bring good luck.

The funny thing is that if you’re considered to be “marked”, there’s a ritual that can be performed to allegedly lift the evil eye from you. The ritual is supposed to be secret and only be passed down and performed by women. In truth it’s not really a secret and the funny thing about it is that, at least in the case of Greece, it’s a small paganistic ritual which involves christian prayers. Though this would seemingly be at odds with church dogma, it’s not at all uncommon for said ritual or similar rituals to be performed by people of faith.

All in all these charms make for nice trinkets since many people consider them aesthetically pleasing if anything else.
