Some restaurants have a small trash bowl. That would be my first guess.
However it could also be a bowl for cutlery and napkins but they forgot to refill. Those are a bit taller usually, so I don‘t think this is it.
Edit: Just saw cutlery next to it. I suppose it‘s the first OR it‘s for a candle to put inside, but it doesn‘t look typically made for that either. Probably trash…?
Waste. Teabags, eggshells etc
That’s a spittoon
I think traditionally those are to store Sauerkraut, but in this case probably for trash or cutlery
i ate a soup out of one of these recently. but i had food poisoning after that so…
That’s a soup tureen. At least for me it is, so i don’t have to get up and get another portion.
Important difference is – if it has 2 handles or only one:
***2 Handles: Soup pot/bowl***
***1 Handle only*** (looks like a hugh tea cup): then it was a “***Nachtscherben***” or “***Nachttopf***”, which means it was a pot for the small business during the night (to make the context: in the past the flats didn’t had the toilett inside (only on the stairway one for multiple flats), there for people used this nightpots to avoid getting dressed and outside of the flat).
Its a trash can for waste on breakfast tables.
Can be for various reasons:
During breakfast it can be used as trash.
Other times you will just find cuttlery in it.
Since you are at the german austrian border this type of bowl is usually used for serving “Weißwürste” in hot water.
Och Angela ein Behälter für Schnitzelsoße.
It’s a running gag we do in Austria: we put random objects in dining tables to confuse tourists.
For grandparents ashes
Weisswursttopf: a pot for hot water with weisswurst in it, to keep the weisswurst nice and hot.
Soup. Those are for soup for everyone to take some into their own bowl.
It’s called Scherbn and it’s a potty for your nr.2 – usually under the bed
In austria we use this as a toilet.
Nochtscheam.
Eco friendly oil disposator
On this breakfast table probably for waste. But these kinds of pots are traditionally for serving soup.
It’s a traditional Austrian hat.
You’re supposed to spit your food into it if you don’t like it. Restaurants can only legally empty it once a week. So it’s an indicator of quality. An empty mug means good quality.

Also for the skin of white sausages „Weißwurst“
that my friend is the legendary south german/ austrian swiss army pot comes standardised with a knive/ screw driver /garage jack and a portable microwave of course without batterys but that should be common sense
