My Mum’s friend had a cataract operation the other day, and this warning came with her eye drops.

  1. So someone put contaminated holy water in their post operation eye, it got infected, they lost the eye, they said the medicine provided didn’t warn not to use holy water, they sued, the pharmaceutical company now has to add this warning. Probably…

  2. Reminds me of the holy water tap near Croagh Patrick with a massive sign saying “BOIL WATER BEFORE USE” beside it.

  3. For the same reason they had to put a warning on microwaves – ‘NOT FOR DRYING PETS!’
Somebody has done it already, with dangerous or fatal results.

  4. My mum hasn’t been voluntarily to church in pretty much my entire lifetime but I still remember her chasing me around trying to make me put holy water in my eye to cure my recurrent eye infections. She’s a bloody nurse.

  5. As a rule of thumb, I would generally follow the last bit of advice fairly regularly.

Not on the Sabbath though, they get drenched in the lord’s water before breakfast 💦

  6. You just know this warning is there because someone stupidly put Holy Water in their eye, and the whole thing melted like a vampire’s skin in sunlight.

  7. IIRCC the rule is you not supposed to drink it or ingest it, just make the sign of the cross and bless yourself with it. You can’t even dispose of it down a regular sink.

  8. Totally legit and not something to be laughed at
Older people will attempt to do stuff like this
