The Giant Energy Price hikes ahead of Winter have commenced.

  1. There will be more huge price hikes between now and Janurary. Buckle up friends because our bills are going to be eye-wateringly high thus Winter.

  2. Winter will be pitchfork and torch season by the looks of it. I honestly cant imagine how people who have already been struggling for years are going to get through the winter.

Years ago I did some volunteering with a charity dealing with a variety of poverty and associated issues, and there was a staggering level of poverty hidden just below the surface in society. People not being able to afford fuel for the heating, or not even being able to stock a fridge properly, or buy clothes for their kids and so on. If anything I imagine the situation has gotten much much worse in the six years or so since I was last there.

The government is really going to have to pull their head out of their ass this time to stave off record levels of poverty.

  3. Was literally discussing this at lunch. I don’t think the Christmas tree lights will be turned on much this year.

  4. If at all possible switch your supplier for Nov/Dec or Jan/Feb to get the big discount off of one of those months. Should take the brunt of the when you take the welcome credit.

  5. Can’t afford it, don’t know what I’m going to do.

I have a disabled son and thankfully got a 2 bed council place last year.

Everything is electric, including heating. I have been with SSE for about 4 years now. Metre is read on the last day of every month.

My elec bills have doubled in the last year and I mean doubled. I am on a 2 month dd but I pay weekly by card in app and let the DD pick up difference

Currently my weekly elec payment is more than my rent this next increase means I won’t have any heating and will end up going without food

  6. Funny. I had a guy from Airtricity last week at my door offering “the cheapest deal there is right now” and “you can check it in Bonkers or anywhere”.

Now I’m curious if it’s still the cheapest lol

  7. So I noticed something odd on the RTE sites cover of this.

“…with electricity bills to rise by over 35% and gas bills set to increase 39%” and the later in the article they say “The energy supplier is increasing the unit price of it’s electricity by 45.2% and the unit price of it’s gas by 46.3% from 1 October”

But I checked the actual press release, it’s because they’re ‘only’ raising the standing charge by 8%.

I don’t get why they’re increasing the standing charge at all. Even if the cost of the gas has gone up, why is the standing charge more?

  8. UK & Ireland need to overhaul their energy infastructure

They don’t utilize anywhere near the amount of wind power they get ( cuntish conservatism )

UK shut down most of their natural gas storage ( Hindsight is great ain’t it)

    Both need more storage ability.

  9. Home heating oil theft was a massive deal after 2008.

Well be hearing a lot about that again I’d say.

  10. In the 80s we shared cable link tv with next door, coax through the wall and split the bill. Maybe now we should share heat with neighbours. One day go in their house, next day in yours. Bingo, heating bill halved.

Wish I had a fire in my place. I’d be burning every twig and newspaper I find.

  11. Apparently all of my electric comes from renewable sources … does the wind cost more? What about the sunlight?

  12. No Christmas gifts for anyone. Gift budget being diverted to energy bill.

In all seriousness, time to stock up on warm socks and get ready to layer up…
