It’s actually an interesting bit of linguistic history. Here in Sweden, we had a long-standing tradition of writing the letter “V” as “F”. This is very obvious when looking at the Swedish nobility (af Klercker – which would be av Klercker today).
Essentially, it is important to note that this tradition lived on during the 80’s and 90’s here in Sweden. As a consequence, when HIV/AIDS became a big point of awareness throughout the US, especially through the tragic impact on the 🏳️🌈-community, people here in Sweden wanted to do the same thing. Therefore, they created this green and white flag, which is meant to create awareness that this “HIF” could become fully-fledged AIDS if one (or rather we all) don’t keep it in check.
