It’s -15 C (5 F) in Helsinki today, and the coast guard has told people to avoid paddle boarding. They had to rescue someone from the sea today. ❄

  1. Does it usually go this cold in December? I was looking at the average temps throughout the years and it never was this cold (first time to Finland).

  2. Well, water is cold. Fall in it and the remainder of your life is counted in minutes! There is also another risk: if the water surface gets frozen while you are out with your board or canoe, etc, you get trapped! It is too hard to be paddled through but too fragile to be crawled on.
