This is one of the dumbest things I have ever seen.
Steam charges 30% doesn’t it so what’s the difference between them and steam? Or am I missing something.
Can Sony really be penalised for rip off pricing when others are doing exactly the same and have been all along.
I don’t see how this makes sense because they charge a percentage commission. That can’t be *directly* responsible for ‘rip-off’ prices, unless there’s a separate, unreasonable minimum imposed on publishers?
The ps store seems relatively reasonable compared to nintendo
Dont get your hopes up because I fail to see under what legal ground you can make a claim. Having a 30% commission is not against the law, you dont have to buy the digital copies they still have physical media. The terms and conditions including the price are clear when you buy the item.
> Unfair terms and conditions include charging a 30% commission on every digital game or in-game purchase made through the online PlayStation Store, the legal claim says.
30% is pretty standard across marketplaces, no?
I don’t have a PlayStation but do they actively prevent you installing from another marketplace? If so, this claim might have some legs.
If you don’t wanna pay, don’t play. I had a PS5 and I saw the prices of games online and immediately sold it. No thank you. For a download?? No chance.
£70 for new videogames is a horrible barrier to get over.
I’m comfortable just waiting months and years for deals, but I wish them luck with their campaign!
How is it possible to claim that players have been ripped-off when games are luxury items and not necessary to anyone?
Abuse of a monopoly is one thing, illegal, immoral, they shouldn’t get away with it, but that’s not my issue. How can one claim to have been ripped off for an entertainment product? If we didn’t like it, we wouldn’t buy it and it isn’t an essential item like food or rent etc.
Putting the 30% commission aside I think the argument around Sony having a monopoly over its digital content store is understandable but I think they’ll have an easy out.
One they’ll argue that you can still buy physical discs from a variety of retailers who mostly compete on price. Secondly you can buy PSN vouchers and game specific cards from retailers as well.
It all hinges on that really, and they’ll argue their digital store is a convenience. I highly doubt they would let Amazon or whoever open a “PSN store” accessible from the console
I dunno, other than loot boxes games are excellent value IMO, digital or not. I’ve spent well over 100 hours just playing elden ring. That’s an hourly rate of about 50p for solid entertainment. Compare that to a 90 minute film at cineworld which is more like £15/hour
They are a fucking rip off. $60 games are £60 on the ps store apparently Sony doesn’t know about exchange rates
What’s even more crazy is I was able to get a physical copy for £40. For a game released in February.
Digital should be cheaper since you’re not producing anything, just copying 1s and 0s.
Everyone paying £70 for a game is just nuts. Anything over that and we’ll I have no hope for future life.
I’m just glad that the digital stores use money and not that BS points thing they all used to do. Buy X for 800 points, Can only get cards in 500,1000, 1500, 2000 etc denominations. Always left with points that you can’t use.
