Bit of a rant but I am so f*cking tired of having the Cyprus dispute framed around the perspectives of the guarantor powers. I know there are at least 100x as many Greeks and Turks as there are G/T Cypriots. But it’s well past time for Cypriot people to be the dominant narrators of our own history

2 of the 3 guarantor powers would also like nothing more than to not have anything to do with the Cyprus problem.
Well for the problem in cyprus you can thank the british goverment of the 20th century 😉
This is unrelated to guarantor powers: CM had an interview with the guy in the movie clip today. https://cyprus-mail.com/2022/06/22/local-actor-find-himself-on-stranger-tides/

For that to happen the Turkish Cypriots need to accept their fair (i.e. proportional) share in Cyprus.
Getting more than their fair share, means that we get less, and the only way we can accept less than our fair share is if we are forced to. And since TCs do not have the power to force such thing on us, they need Turkey to do it for them. As a result they are indebted to Turkey and they become Turkey’s pawns, since Turkey will not help them to gain on our expense, if in return the TCs do not promote Turkey’s interests.
One of the so called “guarantor countries” is the worst human rights violators in modern history. So that’s pretty much the source of your problem.
Sweet summer child….
It won’t matter soon anyway, but I agree with op
Lol “guarantor powers”. The only reason Cyprus is not another Greek island is because the British didn’t allow it. The Turkish Cypriots are the result of Turkish colonization in 1571. Had the Turks not showed up there wouldn’t be Turkish Cypriots. Turkish Cypriots are Greek Cypriot Muslim converts mixed with Turks and some other groups. Sure Cyprus has its own identity like every other part of the Greek speaking world. It wouldn’t be this separate had the British not blocked Cyprus uniting with the rest of Greece like the other islands. It was a Greek island that still has a Turkish presence just like Rhodes. Crete would still have a Turkish presence if the Cretan Turks were not sent away. Unfortunately Cyprus turning into it’s own state has confused everyone. Historically speaking Turks are invaders. Simple as that.
Man… look at all this toxicity.
Agreed my dude.
I know personally (through my parents and myself) Grivas, Makarios, Sampson, Zena Ganther, many leftists, many rangers, many EOKA B and EOKA members, all of which has a place in the war.
History is not what we think.
Im saying this phrase because both GC and TC tend to make generalizations.
This quarrel is maddening at times.
I pray for peace.
Aaah!! Mangas twra egio!
