I would be careful about making assumptions about the size of this problem. I used to work as an asylum caseworker and something I will say … sometimes, absolutely, you got people coming in who claimed they were 17-18 when they likely were more likely in their 20s. But more often, particularly Afghans, you would get people who genuinely had no idea how old they were or when they were born, and no official record of it to check. Claims of their age were basically just guesses even by themselves. There are a lot of people out there with an ‘official’ birthday of January 1st for this reason. And often these were people of little education who had been through absolute hell and were just doing what they thought they needed to do to get some help. That’s it. The 30 year old in sixth form is the exception, not the rule.
I reckon we Brits can be the first nation ever* to figure out a way to stop people who want to live in a country from living in that country
I mean, it seems logistically and financially impossible, but that’s no reason not to try

Has anyone watched that new TV show with Freddie Flintoff in Preston ? The main focus for an episode is an immigrant boy joining in cricket. He turns out to be amazing, a lot better than all of the other boys. The guy is clearly over 30, I’ve never seen anything like it. They are passing him off as 15 or something, I’ve had friends dads look younger. Am I going crazy or is he clearly lying about his age?

Seeing it all the time in London now. Hostels for young people are packed to the rafters with blokes so obviously in their twenties and thirties claiming to be 15 and 16. There needs to be a better, more efficient system in place than already exists for calling out this complete nonsense. It can take social services months to decide what the average person could tell you within four seconds of seeing the bloke.
I feel bad for people who are minors but naturally look older. I had a friend who was balding prematurely, he also had a beard, and even though he was 19, people mistook him for being in his 30s. I am in my 30s but people mistake me for a 20 something because we look young in my family. You won’t believe the shit I get away with because of it.
