According to Gardaí the case file is so large, that a number of them have cancelled summer leave to complete the work.
Charges against a man accused of the murders of Aidan Moffitt and Michael Snee and the assault causing harm to a third man will be struck out next month if the DPP has not given directions.
Yousef Palani (22) of 10 Markievicz Heights, Sligo, appeared before Sligo District Court via video link from Castlerea prison this week.
Mr Palani has been in custody since he was charged following a special sitting of the Sligo District Court on April 14.
How in god’s name is this even possible?
They won’t go ahead with the case because of paperwork????
I saw this a few days back; they better get their finger out.
This is crazy, am I understanding it right? They will release him because there’s so much paperwork they might not come to a decision so they may strike it out?
They won’t be. It’s just the Judge being contrary.
Judge is making the right decision here but the Gardai/DPP definitely need to get the finger out to get the case moving.
The title on that article is BS tbh. The paper work is complicated so there are delays, and the DPP have another month to file it. Thats not that unusual or unexpected, people will have to put in overtime to get it done is all.
I know there’s a lot of talk in certain circles that if this man walks free, it won’t be for long.
Op is clearly posting in bad faith based on some of his comments below. The case file is gonna be much larger in this case than in most other cases because it was a crime spree involving two murders and a serious assault. No one has any intention of not prosecuting Yusef Palani.
Realistically they can’t just hold him indefinitely while they compile the paperwork. That rule is there for a reason.
Why they didn’t just pick the most viable case and prosecute that one first, then the others, is beyond me though. Rolling everything into one big case was obviously going to cause an issue like this.
They’re trying to carry all the shopping bags in from the car in one go.
The state has 6 weeks after directions are given to serve a book of evidence on the accused. The DPP is obviously pushing that out as far as possible to give themselves time to compile the book. Time doesn’t start running until directions are given. The directions will miraculously be available on the next occasion no doubt.
This is a non issue and journalist trying to make a story out of nothing.
There are always delays in these cases. DPP still has another month to submit BoE and even if they don’t make that deadline, they’ll ask for an extension, judge will grant and case will go on.
No one is getting away with murder due an administrative delay.
