Faltering French connection leaves UK fearing winter blackouts

  1. Every year there is talk of blackouts in the uk in the winter months. This winter is no different. With many people not being able to afford to use much electricity due to the prices will there be blackouts?

Edit. Changed to ‘there’ not that makes much difference.
2 down votes? For what exactly?

  2. Does anybody know, if there are blackouts will it affect the mobile network? Will whole areas by cut off or can they just cut off the houses and keep the cell towers powered?

Similarly, if you can run a router from a UPS will you still have internet access? I know the phone line has its own power but does that apply to the cabinets in the street?

  3. PM Truss; “Business failures are due to poor productivity, not energy issues. We all need to work harder to keep Britain running…”

  4. Molten Salt Reactors are the future, unfortunately no one is interested because they’re too cheap to build so the big companies can’t make mega-bucks out of running and decommissioning them.

Lifetime is 30 years, fuel lasts 30 years, is 95% efficient in comparison with a usual reactor and because they run hotter, they are themselves more efficient as well.

50’s technology buried because it doesn’t produce weapons grade plutonium…👍
