In retrospect I think it’s kind of a shame so many statues from the GDR were taken down. There are squares in Berlin where is makes so much sense to have _something_ there, but where there is currently nothing. (Platz der Vereinigten Nationen is one, iirc).
Pulling down statues is dumb. Putting up statues of Marx and Lenin is weird, but there are already loads up. Just don’t start pulling down all the 2nd Reich ones, that would be really, really dumb.

I think it’s important to note that the MLPD doesn’t have any power and that these statues are in front of their headquarters on ground that the MLPD owns.
I can assure you that 99% of Germans are against these statues being there (or don’t have an opinion)

Ah… the MLPD. This party is such a mess, it’s honestly really funny. They have a lot of money for a small party, but they use it for everything but winning elections. Since it’s inception it’s headed by one family, it’s doing stunts like this from time to time and they prefer fighting with other communists than actually doing something productive.
All of this leads to them gathering a few thousand votes in a country of millions. They have been the least successfully Party in an election several times. They’re still around, because they’re basically a Stalinist cult that just happens to be a political party too.
Nonetheless: hearing some of the least powerful people in Germany talking about how they actually represent the will of the people doesn’t get old.
While communist symbols and statues are getting demolished in the East, they’re going up in the West. Hmm…

A very heartening development. To please local taste and pride they should unveil statues of German socialist leaders too like Thalman or Liebknecht. But this is a gutsy move regardless, recognizing the great achievements of leaders like Lenin within this hysterical climate of anti anything Russian cause of the bourgeois Putin regime.

Lenin I can understand, but Marx is one of the most important and insightful thinkers in western history. All Marx said was that every historical era shapes its society to fit the prevailing level of technology; life improves as the society receives the benefit of the surplus produced by that technology; but as time goes on the group that owns the technology will take more of the surplus for themselves leaving less for everyone else; eventually things become so bad that the majority will overthrow that group; repeat forever.
This party is a mess of white privileged bored wealthy kids.

I think I speak for everyone in Europe when I say that Germany has, by far, the worst PR on the continent.
It seems like every major news that comes out of Berlin has to do with Germany either “bowing down” to a major world player despite actually being a major world player, doing some tankie or Nazi shit even though the population is very liberal, pissing off its major allies even though their allies are generally content with German policies outside of energy, or the trillionth articles about WWII.
And the government seems to do nothing to better its image. I understand that Germans are practical people but PR matters. When they fail to defend themselves in the media world then they drag down the entire EU with them. Something has to change.
Marx better than Lenin. But this party is so lunatic… I wonder who paid them all the Money, they got like 0.001% votes in elections.
