Government has ‘lost the plot’ over plan for GPs to prescribe heating bill discounts

  1. I must admit I’m curious to see how well, or otherwise Labour do when they get in after the next election. Because I think what we are seeing now, including Global Warming, is only the start of the hard times to come. We have over-populated the planet, which has caused global warming, which in turn is dropping crops yields by up to 30% across the world.

  2. I don’t think this government is going to survive until the end of the year. Also, it’s hard to look back through the last 200 years and find a worse administration

  3. How will it even work? I doubt the energy companies will give a fuck and will just go “Naaaah, we rather not do that. How about, we knock a single pound of the bill?” I doubt GPs have the time to fight it and the government won’t do anything to enforce it.

They may as well just give everyone a pile of wood, some matches and say “Just huddle around the fire, you pissants.”

  4. I can just imagine the horror of millions of people ringing their gp on the same day for this discount..

  5. As ever, another shitty, convoluted scheme to avoid the issue.

The cap needs holding down at £1900 and the government needs to find a way to do it.

  6. Let me guess plan to pile on so much unnecessary pressure on the NHS it collapses into oblivion in one Winter and using that as the excuse to privatise it immediately and getting the public on side by claiming the NHS was failing, and is evident from the fact they failed to prevent winter deaths with their “prescriptions” and caused a health crisis of massive proportions with malnutrition due to lack of cash because “I didn’t get my cash prescription”. Is that about right?

Because that’s some dark shit right there if it is. Positively evil in fact…

  7. I mean it would be a fascinating one as someone with cold-aggravated major pain to see how my specific GP handled it; they hate writing my winter pain scripts … would they hate this even more?

  8. Oh so a doctors word can be used to means test benefits can it? Can this now be applied to PIP, cos there medical evidence comes second to the opinion of a non-medically trained assessor.

  9. Deliberately attempt to blame GPs for “not getting the help out” to people. Stoopid public will blame lack of GP appointments and not the government. This tory set are are bunch of psychopaths.

  10. As someone who would likely qualify for this (multiple disabilities, including lung, heart, etc, conditions, and hospitalised multiple times per year…), I still think it’s *utterly ridiculous*.

  11. I’m sorry, GPs have to do what now? If this is true that’s got to be one of the worst ideas I’ve ever heard of. They’d be better off giving decisions over discounts to household pets or your local corner shop. That this even being considered shows the depths of idiocy this government is sinking to.

  12. Fucking Tory Britain. I wonder how long it’ll be before they declare poverty a disease and start trying to have us euthanised.

Enough is enough! Vote them out.

  13. Anything to keep the Tory’s dwndling voter base happy. They have to keep the pensioners on side, otherwise no one will be ticking their box in the polling booth.

  14. terrible idea, for one thing there’s a category of people who will lobby their GP to put them down for a discount they don’t need, whereas some other really poor person would be too ashamed to ask their doctor for a discount.

  15. It’s not even a stupid plan. It’s intentionally destructive.

This is about further strangling the NHS and increasing demand for private healthcare. It’s also so the government can claim to be providing energy relief whilst not actually helping anybody because nobody can get a bloody appointment anyway.
