Norway refuses to cut gas prices for Europe

  1. Ofcourse they refuse, who cares about EU, that is European solidarity, we have seen how it works in the last two years. It would be no different with any other country and dont you forget….The Winter is comming……soon.

  2. Kinda absurd to expect it frankly. Essentially asking Norway to subsidise Europe, which is also to say, disadvantage Norwegians and non-Europeans.

  3. It seems easier asking Norway to lower gas prices than overhauling the marginalist market design to send proper signal prices to the market. This is what happens when the European Commission is full of ideologically dogmatised people.

  4. It’s not reassuring in the current situation, however it does leave one option on the table. If everything becomes (even more) insane and it becomes a life and death situation, then I’m sure Norway will find a loophole. Maybe they can sell cheap domestic gas to a private Norwegian entity, which can resell it cheap to European countries. Even if it’s against the rules to sell gas under market price, maybe that does not apply to resellers… Let’s see which loopholes will come in play. Maybe that private entity can even help to “lobby” in the US to buy military hardware under market price and resell it to the Norwegian government. The possibilities are endless.

  5. Up here we are wondering why several countries closed down some of their power plants, while only having a plan A and no plan B. Seems rather naïve. Up here businesses have started to go bankrupted due to the high electricity prices. I suspect many more will follow when it gets cold.
