Do I get problems when driving ÖV with my cosplay rifle? (Has a orange muzzle)

  1. Going off [this brochure on Swiss weapon legislation](https://www.fedpol.admin.ch/dam/fedpol/de/data/sicherheit/waffen/Brosch%C3%BCre/waffenbroschuere-d.pdf), the following applies:

The weapons law applies here because this imitation weapon is easily confused with a real weapon (See pg 2).

Weapons may only be transported in public, openly or packed in a case/bag/whatever, if you’re going to a range or other event where the weapon/imitation thereof is used, a dealer/gunsmith, an army warehouse or when moving your residence (see pg 23).

While it is perfectly legal to transport a weapon openly and people do so with their service rifle when traveling to and from a range, you’re better off wrapping it up somehow because you won’t be travelling along “common range routes” and this is not recognizeable as an old swiss army service rifle. Somebody might get suspicious and call the police on your ass, which will end up with you in cuffs until you’ve explained what you’re up to, regardless of costume. I’d reckon they’d release you after, if your explanation checks out that is, but that’ll take a while of you sitting on the curb in bracelets.

    E: Here’s a newsstory from 2018 outlining exactly what I’ve described above:[https://www.20min.ch/story/tessiner-polizei-nimmt-deadpool-fest-895858190352](https://www.20min.ch/story/tessiner-polizei-nimmt-deadpool-fest-895858190352)
Dude was released after a very embarassing moment and only got a fine because his costume covered his face.

  2. A colored muzzle does not mean anything. You can but a pink Gewehrpariser on your Stgw-90 and it would still be a Stgw-90.

If in doubt any potential weapon has to be treated as if is real and more importantly also as if there is a bullet in the chamber. Gun saftey rule No. 1.

According [Art. 4 of the law](https://www.fedlex.admin.ch/eli/cc/1998/2535_2535_2535/en#art_4), weapons are defined as (amongst others):

    >imitation, blank cartridge and airsoft weapons that can be mistaken for real firearms due to their appearance.

[Art. 6 of the accompanieng ordinance](https://www.fedlex.admin.ch/eli/cc/2008/767/de#art_6) further says:

    >Druckluft-, CO2-, Imitations-, Schreckschuss- und Soft-Air-Waffen sind mit Feuerwaffen verwechselbar, wenn sie auf den ersten Blick echten Feuerwaffen gleichen, und zwar unabhängig davon, ob eine Fachperson oder sonst jemand nach kurzer Prüfung die Verwechselbarkeit erkennt.
    >
    >Compressed air, CO2, imitation, alarm, and soft-air weapons are mistakable for firearms if they resemble real firearms at first glance, regardless of whether a skilled person or anyone else recognizes the mistake after a brief examination.

I see no reason why this should not apply in your case. As said the colored muzzle has no meaning.

They are not considered as weapon if they are fully transparent or other wise obvious toys.

Important: You must be 18 years old. You must have a sales contract which you must keep for at least 10 years. If you imported it you must have had a permission from your canton.

You are allowed to transport it on the most direct way from your home to the event and back. I did not find anything about transporting it in the ÖV.

If you need further information ask your cantons weapons bureau.

  3. All it needs is for someone, probably a reddit expat who is reading this, to freakout and you’ll be swarmed by police pointing their guns on you

  4. I had a few friends that either got fined or stopped by police carrying (unconcealed) cosplay weapons with red/orange tips on the way to or from a convention.

So either conceal it or leave it at home

  5. I mean, in theory you can get lots of problems (weapon laws, ect.) , but generally you only get pitying glances like „poor guy has to go at obligatorisches“.

  6. It needs to be declared at fedpol apparently. I wanted an airsoft pistol so I had already read all the laws

  7. How can I get rid off my imitation ak47? It‘s not like I can simply put it in trash bags and into a container. I bought it in amazon years ago.
