I took the 101E bus from the Memento Park (in the middle of nowhere) in Budapest back to town and had only 1000 forint on us. The driver just kept the change and said read this sign. How come the driver doesn’t have change to give back to passengers and keeps the damn change?

  1. It’s unclear what’s your exact issue, but if you did not get change it’s right there on the picture in english.

  2. The drivers are penalized if they miss the schedule and all busses have GPS. So drivers who have to sell tickets simply don’t have time to count change. Hence the sign. Buy your ticket via the app and just scan the QR code and you’ll be fine.

  3. They do not want you buy ticket from the driver. There are a zillion places to get tickets, get a pack somewhere and do not mess with the driver.

    Sign says you need to pay exact, no change. Also a ticket is much less at a ticket machine.

  4. Buying ticket on the bus slows it down by a lot, especially if the driver needs to give change.
    Use the machines or the app.

  5. See, why didn’t you come to Pécs instead, you wouldn’t have such problems. A ticket here costs 500 HUF.

    Next time buy your ticket in the Budapest Go app (350ft) or at ticket machines (300Ft in bulk).

  8. Buying tickets from the driver is meant as a last resort and they don’t have time to deal with change. Use the ticket machines or the Budapest Go app.

  11. They don’t want to waste time with changes, and in my opinion it’s fair enough. You would waste everyone else time on the bus. Just buy your ticket online.

  12. Ok that makes sense for the driver not having time to handle the cash!

    However Budapest & Memento Park is filled with international tourists and you would expect an easier system for just simply buying a bus ticket if you are at a bus stop with no ticket machine & can’t use the app (used it on day 1 and it wasn’t working with my CB)

    And you wouldn’t expect the driver to take 1000 forint each and just keep the change when it’s the cost of another ticket, but I guess it’s just an individual experience so whatever haha
