Used to get this all the time when I worked in housekeeping at a hotel.
That makes a lot of cents actually..
A room left me an unopened can of coke that I saw as more valuable than however many pounds was left behind by the other rooms.
Neck of them. They wouldn’t dare leave that as a tip if they were at home.
Here is some litter, thanks for the service.
Unless they bought one cup of coffee to share between them, that’s a stingy tip even by Irish standards. They also ought to have the sense to know that foreign coins are worthless in any case.
My friend got given a tip in rupees the other day. Guy works in Santry 😂
Couple weeks ago some Australian tourist came in and were really nice and respectful. When I went to clear their table I saw a generous tip the equivalent of €15
…….. in Australian Dollars
OOOhhh a nickel! You see this? I quit. *Slaps hotel manager* I’ll open my own hotel.
Not worth throwing to the pond for a wish even, some places take notes but what you gonna do with yank coins
Looks like the classic “I’ll leave whatever’s in my change purse” situation 🙄
American’s are gas. I was sitting out beside a group in Prague and this lad goes to buy a pretzel of a street vendor in US dollars. Back to his buddies and was flabbergasted she wouldn’t take them. Off he goes to an ATM and I overheard him saying, “does this work” as he paid for his pretzel.
Yes it does you dumb cunt, it’s local currency.
We did not tip small pub owners on our trip, but would ask them to “add on a pint for yourself” when that chip reader arrived. Always got a nod and “good day to ya then!”
I worked one time as chef, waiter, dishwasher all on my own in a small bar when a large group of Americans came in they had me running back and forth from the bar to the kitchen for nearly two hours and asked the barman to send me over to them to get my tip. The barman is like I think the Americans have a big tip for you there was maybe 15 in their group they called me over and made a big deal about it to the point other customers were watching thinking I’m about to hit the payload. Then the American customer places a €2 coin in my hand and closed my fist for me
Was having lunch one day a few years ago on the terrace of Harry’s on the green. Waiter was left a stingy tip by an American couple and really loudly and obviously shouted and hurried after them saying “folks you forgot this……..your 40cent!”
I had some American coins in a tin for a few years along side Euro, Australian and sterling coins. The American ones were covered in corrosion. It was weird.
American here — there is zero reason to ever give anyone a penny. That’s rude all on its own. You’re meant keep them at home in a massive jar you’ll never actually take to the bank, not burden other people with them.
My da is a taxi driver. You’d be fucking shocked at the amount of American tourists coming from the airport who will cause a stink that you won’t take payment in dollars.
Have them framed and mounted with a sarcastic commerative inscription in your workplace.
I would like to apologize on behalf of all America.
We don’t often tip in hotels in the states, but a restaurant tip like this might get your food spat on.
I worked in a phone shop all about trying to get people to upgrade and shite. I was very bad at it.
But one day an American guy comes in in a panic coz he couldn’t get his phone to work to call his wife and let her know he’s okay.
Literally just went into his setting and knocked on his roaming, he had messages on but not calls or whatever way it worked.
He handed me a $10 bill. I keep it in the cover of my phone. Good luck maybe 😅
Dude, I’ve been to several different countries and never left my American money as a tip, always the local currency.
I can’t make head nor tails of that picture.
I once had an American trying to use US dollars in our hotel and then argue that because the card machine accepts them why don’t we accept them in cash? 🤔
The best part is that even when I tell them that the banks charge them for the privilege of using dollars and also give a terrible rate they still choose to use dollars on the card machine.
American here.
This was a douchebag move, 100%.
Appreciate the attempts by some Irish to excuse this in these comments but I came upon this thread today and it’s embarrassing and not to be excused.
They didn’t need to leave you anything tbh. Tipping culture in Ireland is another unwanted import
Are we suppose to leave a tip in Ireland ?
I’m American and I’m embarassed for them
Not necessarily moaning but Jesus I wonder what percentage of the people on this sub are actually American haha
