Six-month search for accommodation proves fruitless as Wexford student faces arduous six-hour daily commute

  1. College used to be for everyone now it is just for the upper middle classes and above as the ordinary joe/joe soaps who can afford the fees and living expenses and books etc are now priced out of the accom. sector for students even if they could find somewhere.

  2. I feel sorry for the people who couldn’t afford to go to college all the years before. You know the guys.
The ones who got a job in a factory or a restaurant.

The ones who got told they should have gone to college when they ask for a payrise. The ones who get told their job is unskilled they should have gone to college.

Looks like some of the people who said that in the past will be hearing that about their own children now.

The middle class are getting kicked down a peg while they look down on the unskilled workers.

Late stage capitalism is a stage where the very few have all the wealth in the capitalist game. Your children’s children will more than likely not go to college. The health service will probably be privatised, they probably won’t afford insurance. They will probably never buy their own houses.

Big brother back next year, deadly.

  3. I give it less than a month before a FG minister tries to claim that people being priced out of college is a good thing actually cause it’ll make more people take apprenticeships and that’s what will fix the housing crisis.

  4. Don’t get me wrong it’s a horrible situation for the students and accomodation for everyone else, but has the live stream of classes suddenly stopped since covid is restrictions have been lifted? I know this is not the solution to the on going problem but the focus could be spent on time in the classroom instead of time on the bus or train

  5. I did a good Leaving Cert but couldn’t afford to go to college, but got a trade and it worked out ok. Did some odd jobs in a college to make ends meet and would solve the sums on the old blackboard at night if I was bored. Turns out I had a hefty brain on me but a few issues. Ironed it all out with the help of one of the staff and never looked back. Met an awesome bird too.

  6. If it was me I’d stay in a hostel Mon-Thur. Very fucking far from ideal but I don’t see what else is for it.
