Father who spied on al-Qaida accuses Edinburgh school of discrimination

  1. Yeah, these parents are dumb. The guy literally risked with his and his family’s lives to work *against* Al-Qaeda. He should be welcomed with open hands.

  2. This guy is a fucking hero.

His book is probably one of the best books I have ever read on any subject.

He comes across as a thoroughly decent moral guy who risked his life many times so that the West could remain safe.

I have a lot of respect for anything he says.

  3. I said the same in another thread about this same article.

I appreciate the guy wants a normal life. But I also feel that this article is a bit unfair.

The subtext is that this small town is racist or prejudiced because the school has raised security concerns.

This glosses over the fact the guy, irrespective of all of his good work, was an actual member of a terror organisation before he swapped sides. He was mixed up in serious stuff.

And re: MI5’s assurances, assassinations of spies do happen and have happened relatively recently.

Seems a bit severe to colour the school’s concerns this way, and in The Guardian no less. Not forgetting the school has a duty of care to his kids and the other kids.

  4. Anyone wanting to know more about him, I would highly recommend the podcast he does called *Conflicted*. Some real interesting insights into the Middle East
