UK city gets unwanted title of ‘most dangerous in Europe’ – and another comes second

  1. > According to the list, the most dangerous city in Europe is Bradford in West Yorkshire, which has a crime index value of a whopping 71.24.
    >
    > This also makes it the 26th most dangerous city in the world.
    >
    > Furthermore, the second most dangerous city in Europe is another UK location; Coventry in the West Midlands.

  2. Coventry I get. I went to uni in Birmingham and worked in ladbrokes. I was always getting called up on my days off asking if I wanted shifts in Coventry as they couldn’t get anyone to wolf down there due to all the robberies and violence. You had people transferring to ladywood and handsworth to avoid working there!

  3. I’m from Bradford and this is frankly bollocks. Just like those stories about how Bradford has no go areas for whites.

And if you don’t believe me, I’m coming round to your house to burn it down, murder your pets and superglue your family to the main road

  4. This is absolute bollocks.

What about London? What about all of Eastern Europe?

I know for a certainty there is less crime in Bradford than Minsk. I feel like these statistics are based exclusively on reported crimes.

  5. I think this must be complete bollocks.

There are places in Romania you just straight up don’t go if you aren’t a local.. some of the new ghettos in France.. Good luck?

  6. Some daft metrics in use there – a high rise in crime over the last 3 years doesn’t make a city more dangerous than another city that had more crime in the first place

And it doesn’t seem like they’re comparing like-for-like crime either, although it’s hard to be sure without the dataset

  7. Immediately thought Bradford before I opened the link. Never even been close to the city, it just popped into my mind instantly.

  8. I’m not sure it’s even the most dangerous in Yorkshire.

Within 2 days of living in Leeds, someone had tried to nick my car.

  9. These things baffle me, I travel a lot, in my spare time and for work. Not visited everywhere obviously but I’ve felt far less safe in most French and Spanish cities than most English ones, perhaps the language has an effect but by Christ this is hard to believe

  10. Having worked in Bradford its not a nice place but other than homeless people kicking off nothing ever happened.

    Worst driving maybe though

  11. This ranking is total BS and pops up everywhere

Numbeo is NOT a statistical site. It measures its rankings on surveys, which means that the crime ranking is based on how safe people felt in these cities, not how safe they actually are.

If you’re looking for the actual UK city with the highest crime rate, it’s Middlesbrough.

  12. We’re such badasses here in the UK, constantly living on the edge, staring danger in the face and telling it we’re not putting on a face mask.

  13. Hmmmm I wonder why??? Sex offences too eh, interesting. Don’t want to get banned so I will keep my mouth shut.

  14. Sounds about right. Police did fuck all about grooming gangs, failing to protect the most vulnerable. Deserved place

  15. This is absolute SHITE.

There is not a chance Bradford and Coventry are more dangerous than fucking Chicago.

This study appears to take the UKs (stupidly) combined category of violent and sexual offences and compare them to other countries categories, which are just not in the same ballpark.

To put this in perspective, Chicago has a murder rate of 28/100,000. Bradford has a murder rate of about 2/100,000.

  16. I’ve never been there, but from the comments on here and other forums I knew that the answer would be Bradford.

  17. Only ever been to Bradford a couple of times. Seemed about the same as any Northern English city or large town

    No drive-bys or death squads

  18. >Bradford is a safe place to live, work and visit.

Video at the top of the article:
    >Bradford: Street brawl sees a man brandishing a machete in 2021

    Uh huh.

  19. Bradford is worse than chicago apparently?!?! Now i actually lived in chicago for 6 years and they have a population of 2-5 million (depending on what suburbs you include) and have, on average 500 homicides per year. Only time in my 31 years have i been exposed to violent crime, was there in chicago lol

For comparison the entire UK (i think. Might be just england and wales) has also around 500 homicides per year, but has a population of 68-69 million. And around 50% of those homicides happen in london, which is Around 8 million people.

Now im no Einstein , but something seems WILDLY wrong with what this article is saying.

  20. Knew it would be Bradford before I clicked the link, my cousins lived there for a couple of years when they were kids and it was just shocking. Molested at school, one of them had half his ear bitten off, they were woken up one night by someone firing a gun in the street outside, my aunt was spat on for wearing a low cut top in Summer, on bonfire night one of their neighbours cats was killed after being taped to a firework.

  21. Bradford’s rubbery dingy rapids bro’s doing what they do best.

All that family inbreeding had taken it’s toll, lower IQ and the highest rate of learning disabilities in the UK.

Also holds the title as the city with the highest rate of babies born with birth defects in Europe.

  22. Great. Yet another reason for the rest of the UK to shit all over my home city. Bradford’s problem is that it’s been financially neglected for decades. Probably longer. From this it also suffers chronic brain drain, which compound the problems. It’s not just Bradford that suffers from deprivation. Most places in the UK do, including parts of London. I suppose Bradford is an easy target (and it’s not in the South). If a region is throttled over generational time spans you take hope from the place. This is caused by the people who are meant to be managing the country. They also have the power to rectify problems but the solutions take longer than the four year election cycle to have an effect.

  23. Go report a simple, no-injuries male v male assault in somewhere like Greece or Romania and watch yourself get laughed out of the cop shop. Or that your bike was stolen from the street, zero chance your average eastern european cop is recording that.

The UK is *excellent* at reporting and recording crime.

  24. The rankings this story is based off are calculated by getting visitors to the company’s website to pick a city then fill in quiz questions on how safe they feel there. No actual crime stats, no verification that people know anything about the city they’re rating, nothing.

It’s complete garbage, check your sources people.
