Rail strikes: Only 20% of rail services expected to run

  1. I prefer to think of it as 80% of rail services being diverted to assist striking workers.

When I recently was looking to getting a railcard, it seems it’s not just old people and students now. Nearly anybody can get one or another. Travelling in groups, or two’s. Single people 31-60 are basically the only ones who can’t. It’s all basically another tax, but not to obtain cheaper prices no. To obtain the prices that we would have had if they had only risen a couple of percent above inflation instead of vastly so.

So much profit has been taken out of the network that nationalising is the only option now, to have someone elected take responsibility. And to do so by putting in money raised from taxes on high earners. It would also create jobs since it’s clear they are already running a skeleton staff.

  2. Keep strong. They know that if the strikers win then it’ll be a domino effect for everyone demanding fairer wages. That’s what we want.

The media have got us all out-pooring ourselves and convincing us that giving these people a payrise is ‘greedy’, but say nothing to the people at the top handing each other million pound bonuses and simpering to the shareholders.

Keep strong! This is the start!

  3. I imagine everybody would strike if their company decided to slash benefits, hadn’t given a pay rise for a while and then demonised the workers to the press.

  4. Already on the news/radio where they only interview the CEOs or the managers and not the ones on strike.

“it’s affecting business and customers!!!” but not one fucking peep about how easy it is to end the strikes by paying them an extra £2/h or whatever it is. God forbid they don’t make £500m in profit and only make £498m!

UK news is a fucking shambles and we should all be ashamed for allowing Cunt Murdoch to bring it to this state.

  5. Got stranded at the other end of the country on Friday. Had to stay in a hotel room which was a real pain, and it cost the people I work for.

The latest figure I’ve seen offered by Network Rail etc in The G are 8% over two years, and even that’s tied to pretty deep redundancies.
As long as they’re making silly offers like this, I hope the unions stay strong.

  6. Good on them!

We ALL need a pay rise. Regardless of industry.
The issue with rail is less people are using it thanks to WFH, so that’s less money. How do we pay for rail pay increases without then raising fares dramatically? And then what happens when people say, “fuck it, I’ll wfh then!”

The only way a pay rise works is if EVERYONE across all industries have pay rises. Which is why I believe in their cause. Give them a pay rise… give everyone a pay rise!

  7. Nobody else is getting anywhere inflation level pay rises at this inflation rate. They already get better pay and terms than vast majority of workers. Yet they are happy to make everyone else lose time, money and opportunity so they can make the gap even wider. Then they talk about solidarity? What a joke.

  8. Average salary for TfL is 37.5k. These guys are greedy and messing up everyone else’s lives by not being able to use transport. Not many people like the TFL staff already and this will not help.

If you don’t like the job or want to get more money go look for other jobs and stop ruining the lives of everyone else. The job market is amazing right now, I recently moved jobs, it was not hard. Now please just stop being greedy and let people live their lives.

    I’m prepared to get downvoted.

  9. I’m travelling this weekend for a job interview. I desperately need to get a train so I think I’m going to have a real inconvenience…

…and it means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. I support the unions and strikes 100%. Solidarity!

  10. If they win will they still demand 5 or 6 useless employees just standing next to ticket barriers at every station in the country, doing fuck all except swipe a card to let a pram or two through the disabled ticket barriers?

  11. You know what? I’m close to asking all other working sector employees to go on strike as well. Might as well close down as much as the entire country to send a message
