Robert Troy resigning from Minister of State role

  1. Should have been sacked. The fact that MM and Leo supported him tells me everything I need to know.

Sends a real big FUCK YOU to all who are currently suffering in this housing disaster

  2. The TD apologised for the upheaval caused by this controversy which he said has distracted from the “serious issues at hand in this country” and the “good work this Government is doing, particularly in housing”.

    FUCKKKKKKKK OFFFFFF

  3. Still a sitting TD. Still an active member of government. Still has a say on housing policy. Still unpunished for his corruption.

  4. “Go now before you derail the gravy train for the lot of us, you stupid bollocks!” – how I imagine it went between Michael and Robert before the decision was made.

  5. He bought his first house at 20. I am glad he felt the need to let us know that during the resignation. Tone deaf and ego the size of a bus.

  6. If you need something to be truly angry about today, consider this paragraph from his resignation letter:

“I personally will not apologise for being a landlord. I bought my first house at the age of 20 as I went straight into a job after schools, so I was in a position to purchase my first property then. I am not a person of privilege and I have not been brought up with a silver spoon in my mouth, I have worked for all I have”.

No Robert. Your tenants worked for all you have. Also: first house at 20, and STILL claims no privilege.

He personally removed ELEVEN houses from the market, to rent them back at extortionate rates. But landlords are not the villains? Really?

  7. Crystallised beyond doubt that the Government has no intention of addressing the housing crisis and have lost significant amount of confidence, if not the confidence of an entire generation.

  8. “I am not a person of privilege.”

He owns 11 properties and rents out 9 of those properties. That makes him pretty privileged. And he’s still going to be a TD on €100,000 a year.

(Even though he really shouldn’t be a TD because he can’t be trusted to tell the truth. Being trusted/able to tell the truth should be an absolute minimum requirement to be a TD, IMO.)

  9. That radio interview put the nail in the coffin, I say he was thinking ill do an interview and ill be grand they’ll be soft on me. I say he got a phone call from the head honchos to resign after that. Parasite

  10. Irish Times are saying they are publishing another story about his Rathdown Road property tomorrow, they contacted FF earlier today but got no response.

Guessing there’s another big scandal tomorrow which they are getting ahead of.

  11. He felt emboldened enough to own 11 properties without properly declaring them cos he never thought people would catch wind or that there would be any consequences. He asked questions in the dail which were directly related to his lucrative side gig rather than the issues of his constituents. Huge thanks to we are on the ditch for finally forcing one of these muppets to face the music. I know he only resigned his govt brief but still, its something

  12. As pointed out by TD Paul Murphy, the best defense the Robert Troy can give is that he has **incompetently** filled out and submitted declarations of his assets over **multiple years**.

So either he’s incompetent and shouldn’t have any role as a minister by sheer fact that he’s too stupid to do the job. Or he has purposefully lied and broken the law under the Ethics in Public Office Act , 1995. Again meaning he shouldn’t be a minister and likely shouldn’t even be a sitting member of the Daíl.

Honestly I don’t know which is worse, an absolute thick sack of shit who has had direct influence on housing policy. Or a lying corrupt sack of shit who has had direct influence on housing policy and enriched himself in the process.

  13. I very much doubt that Troy’s behaviour, using his position to enrich himself and block efforts to resolve the housing crisis, is in anyway unusual for landlord TDs and councillors.
Members of political parties that make most of thier money from owning property rather then working have few interests in common with working people.
Hopefully people remember that when voting.
People like Troy do not want rents to come down they don’t want people to be able to afford housing and then don’t want councils providing social housing they don’t rent from privileged people like himself.

  14. Still in power.

Still has a say in housing.

    Still has 11 properties.

Still just a drop in the bucket of people in power abusing a market they destroyed.
