Not even sure how being ‘gender critical’ comes into the subject of drag, and nowhere explains how she sees drag acts as sexist, but it’s a pretty safe bet she said something transphobic along with this. Why else bring her beliefs or being ‘gender critical’ into it?
Drag acts and trans individuals are two very distinctly different groups, that trans students were upset says there’s more to the story.
The instance mentioned was the idea of comparing drag to blackface, which is generally pretty shitty (no surprise the teacher is white), but comparing trans women to blackface is a common comparison made to undermine trans identity – ie. accusing trans women of participating in ‘womanface’, like a majority person appropriating minority culture. I can’t help but think a ‘gender critical feminist’ would make that comparison, this is likely the reason she was fired and not merely suggesting drag could be sexist.
As always, there’ll be more to this story than what is reported. Gender ‘critical’ adherents tend to have a very strained and distant relationship with reality, and the truth.
if i put on clown makeup does that mean i’m exhibiting an offensive caricature of this person
When will people learn to steer clear of unwinnable debates.
>A college spokesman said: ‘BIMM fully supports and defends freedom of speech, academic freedom and equality, and has rigorous policies in place to ensure staff and students are treated fairly and in full accordance with these principles. It would not be appropriate for us to comment on the specifics of this case at this stage, given the ongoing litigation, save to say that allegations of discrimination are strongly denied.’
>He said that **important facts surrounding Ms Boardman’s unsuccessful probation period were missing from her account**.
Interesting last sentence in that quote. I think we’re not hearing the full story as per.
